Renpho AI Bike - no resistance in game [January 2022] [SOLVED]

Hey there fellow Renpho users. I’ve noticed all the same things stated previously in this thread. I have the capability of testing two bikes also because my dad has one. Both have the same issue. One thing that kind of worked was; when you’re on the free ride screen and your rider is visible if you toggle the renpho bike to the Bluetooth logo and press the button for about 8 seconds it turns off the gearing and you’ll hear a beep. The bike will show the NM option and you can dial that up to your preferred wattage. When you go up and down hills you will maintain the same watts but there is no terrain feedback. You won’t get any increase or decrease in resistance based on the grade of the road you are riding. You will however see your KPH or MPH slow down or increase based on grading of road which is something, but not the experience we all desire. I hope this helps! Can’t wait for a fix, emailed renpho and zwift, likely a renpho fix.

Same problem here. Basically, the Renpho bike is no longer supported by Zwift following the last update. I have emailed Zwift too. Very disappointing.

It wasn’t supported by Zwift (i.e. on the list of supported trainers) before the last update either. You need to be talking to Renpho about why they advertise their bike as being compatible with Zwift and what they can do to fix any issues. Though “compatible with” is a very fuzzy expression.

Hi all, after I read everyone post, I try to summarise what I observed:

  1. Renpho AI bike started not being supported by Zwift in the latest update 1.20.1.
  2. In update 1.20.1, it claimed update fixed issue in group event and provided some improvements.
  3. In Zwift official website, it states " If you already have an indoor bike (or are thinking about buying one) that’s not listed below, feel free to contact to us—we are here to help!". Seems Zwift has open mind to all other brands and models.
  4. Zwift supported bike means those bikes will be tested and supported for each update.
  5. After I look around on Renpho official website, there is no official statement to claim its bike supported by Zwift.

Therefore I have the following conclusions:

  1. Since Renpho is not officially supported, Zwift did no testing on Renpho and other brand out of the supported list.
  2. Other bike out of supported list may suffer the same issue.
  3. I’m personally believed Zwift has no intention to keep other unsupported brands out of the door, unless Zwift make an official statement to state no longer support unsupported bike.
  4. Renpho didn’t make any false statement for its product is supported by Zwift.

What I will do:

Since I paid subscription fee and I believed this bug was due to Zwift developer team didn’t test on unsupported product, I will send an email to Zwift support team to look for a solution.

Cheers.
AY

I have the same problem with my Renpho bike and Zwift. However, my wife uses the Wahoo SYSTM program and she discovered the same problem today. If she turns ERG mode off, she gets very little resistance. If she switches gears using the Renpho bike’s control knob, it momentarily increases resistance before dropping back down to nearly nothing. Again, this is in the Wahoo SYSTM application on Mac, NOT in Zwift.

This indicates the problem might be with the Renpho bike firmware and not with Zwift. Let’s all contact Renpho support so they know this is serious.

It’s listed as ‘compatible with Zwift’ on their webpage for the bike. You should be chasing Renpho as the ones making this claim, not Zwift. Zwift do not support it, so there’s no obligation on them to do anything.

Oh. Just found that page.

Ok, I’ve tried the QZ workaround as suggested by Roberto, and it looks promising but still having some issues (possibly due to settings?). So this is my setup: Renpho bike → QZ app running on Samsung 10 phone → Zwift running on ATV. The manual resistance control works great now, I can change resistance from 1 to 40 in 0.5 increments, however, there is no terrain grade feedback, i.e. resistance stays constant no matter what grade terrain is. Also, I attempted a 60minute group ride and Zwift lost connections with my phone twice.

Same issue here with my Renpho bike. Very disappointed as well. I can still return the product, I think I will and buy a supported trainer to avoid future issues.

Same with my renpho bike. I just write a mail to the EU renpho support and will give you a feedback as far i get a response.

I think this is the only automatic resistance controllable bike “out of the box” for zwift under 1000$, isn’t it? For me, the most important argument to give it a try. And now it doesnt work there. Very disappointing.

It’s only been a few days and firmware updates usually take a while to roll out, so I’m hopeful Renpho will fix this issue eventually. They are aware of the issue and are looking into it, at least according to email I’ve received from them. Here is a portion of that email:

“Thanks for your feedback. We have reflected your issue to the software support team. We have been concerning your user experience. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.”

“We did a research and it’s perhaps caused by the Zwift upgrade, it broke the compatibility with the last update. Thanks for your patience”

Got this from renpho:

. Could you please tell me whether the Al Smart Bike works fine without connecting to the Zwift app? If it can work normally without connecting to any apps, The no-resistance issue is caused by the third app’s upgrade, it broke the compatibility with the last update. Our technology department has customized the upgrade package but it needs to spend some time. We will notify the clients to go on an OTA upgrade if we finish this project. Thanks for your patience.
Tips: We recommend you can use our Al Gym app instead of the Zwift app over this period. The Al Gym app is stable and free to the clients, which can also arrange your suitable exercising plan smartly.

  1. Since we are not the R&D of the Zwift app, your issue is not caused by the Al Smart Bike. We can only try our best to improve related code the next time for the compatibility of the newest Zwift app. We still suggest you can view Zwift’s official , and contact the relevant workforce by clicking “Contact Us” at the bottom at the same time.

Have a great day.

The Renpho AI bike worked before the Zwift update and now it doesn’t. The loss of comparability is clearly the result of that update. Hopefully Zwift can address this. It may be that Renpho can provide a firmware fix instead but I am not optimistic.

I only bought the bike because it was Zwift compatible so this is very disappointing. My preference is to stick with Zwift although I also discovered yesterday that the Renpho AI bike is expressly supported by Kinomap which appears to be worth a look.

Dear Temi,

Glad to receive your response again. We have prompted the related department to follow this significant issue. They will push forward the solving procedure to troubleshoot within 2 days. Thanks for your patience.

I’m also a user of the Zwift app but I don’t upgrade the Zwift app, so it seems fine currently when I am connecting this app to the Al Smart BIke. We suggest you can use our official app-Al Gym app over this period, as it’s friendly to our clients and it’s also stable. Thanks for your understanding.

If you know about other clients facing similar difficulties on the forum, please help us to appease them it’s not caused by the Al Smart Bike, it’s perhaps mainly caused by the Zwift upgrade, and it broke the compatibility with the last update. Also, we are trying our best to offer an effective solution even though we don’t need to do this.

Wish you have a nice day.
