Renpho AI Bike - no resistance in game [January 2022] [SOLVED]

is the firmware of the renpho upgradable?

Yes it is, through their AI GYM app

This is indeed a viable option all things considered, however, at least for me the appeal of Zwift + Renpho was that Renpho’s trainer is perhaps the least expensive, and Zwift is integrated with Strava. Completely unrelated to this, but perhaps another issue to raise with Renpho is to have the AI Gym app integrate with Strava so that the virtual rides/challenges can be tracked in Strava - if they were do to that, that would be a huge plus.

I’m overall optimistic that this will be resolved. Would be interesting to find out how many of the Zwift community are using Renpho’s bike - maybe it’s a sizeable group?

we should start a Renpho Zwift riders group, then we can get a better sense of how many of us ride the renpho on zwift.

Impressive Customer Service responses you folks have had from the manufacturer to date.

I have the same issue.

I have the same Issue and I also bought this bike only for Zwift.

Same issue. I have contacted Amazon who’ve said I can return the bike :frowning:

My guess is around 100

Hopefully both Zwift and renpho will be looking at this and a fix will be found soon. It seems from comment’s that the renpho isn’t the only bike affected. It’s a real shame as I was enjoying Zwift on the renpho bike but if it doesn’t work it’ll be hard to continue to subscribe to zwift

Zwift have enough on keeping the officially supported devices working tbh.

That’s fair. They (Zwift) also happen to be earning subscription revenue from unofficially supported device users at the same rate as those using officially supported devices which does bring with it a certain level of expectation from the customers and possibly obligation on Zwift’s part - rightly or wrongly - it ends up just being dollars and cents.

From what I can tell, it does appear that both are keen on resolving this and if anything, this little ordeal is probably the best justification for why a software update should never be issued during the holidays

I’m still enjoying my rides though!

Latest from zwift support.

Hi Temi,

Thanks for reaching out to us. This is Melania with Zwift Support. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with resistance on your Renpho Al Bike, I know technical issues like this can be frustrating.

We’ve received many reports about this issue from our users. Here’s the [ link ]to a thread on our forums regarding this problem, please feel free to check it out for possible updates. Our developers have already been informed that this issue with resistance occurs.

I would like to ask you to try resetting your devices and game preferences to see if this helps to resolve your issue. Zwift can sometimes hang onto the wrong info and this should allow the devices to pair as if they were brand new. For more info on resetting game preferences, please check out the steps in our [ article ]

After resetting your game preferences, please make sure that your trainer’s firmware is up to date and it is calibrated. You can perform an in-game calibration of your trainer. To see the steps, please check out this [ article ]

I’d like to inform you that since your trainer isn’t supported by Zwift we cannot guarantee that it will work with the app without any problems, even though it used to work just fine in the past. However, the good news is that our specialists are aware of this model and are working on the future compatibility of the Renpho AI bike.

It is possible that we will receive further instructions and suggestions on how to solve this problem, but for the time being, we cannot guarantee this.

Thank you for understanding while we work on a fix for that.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Thanks,

I suppose that all depends on whether you mean rate-per-user, or rate-per-device. I think I would be inclined to look at it from the rate-per-device perspective or else you’d be thinking that Zwift should be supporting every type of device available.

Rate per user. If a user’s device isn’t supported, they can either get another device or stop using the service. Getting another device might be cost-prohibitive and if the number of users with the device with an issue is a sizeable number, dropping the service could pose a challenge for the service.

From the looks of it above, Zwift is clearly aware of the issue and is looking to address it (it also seems it’s not the only issue they have which given technology and the various handshakes/combinations, is not a surprise).

I would strongly suggest giving Roberto’s app QZ Domyos a go. It may provide a solution whilst the bigger picture is looked at. The app costs only a few pounds/dollars/euros and has plenty of advanced features. Roberto will work hard to get full compatibility.

I use the app for sending the speed from my treadmill to Zwift and even better it will automatically change the incline to match Zwift.

I already have ticket open with Roberto on github for getting full Renpho bike compatibility. It’s almost there. You can already use it in freeride mode and the resistance works. The only thing it’s missing for now is terrain feedback. Great app

Just tried it and yes, it works! Really easy:

  • Installed the app on my phone = QZ app+phone connects to the Bike - so that becomes New Bike
  • Tablet used to connect to Zwift which then connects to New Bike

Resistance on the New Bike can now be adjusted - terrain feedback I couldn’t pick up on but then I did ride on a route that hardly had any change in elevation - basically with this setup the bike is behaving like pre-update.

Thanks for the nudge Stuart!

My pleasure. If the terrain isn’t working then I’m sure Roberto will work on that. Just having it changing resistance is the main thing.

Do you also get full 1-40 resistance control in 0.5 increments/decrements? Before I was only getting 1-20 in increments/decrements of 1. This is good
