I have a Elite Direto XR and it should be compatible with Zwift Ride Smart Frame.
If I buy Zwift Ride Smart Frame, do I then have all I need to ride with virtual gears?
Elite have not released a firmware update that would support it. There are signs that they might but don’t buy anything based on that assumption.
Hopefully there will be a firmware update for existing Direto XRs to support this, but Elite haven’t announced that.
I asked Elite on their Facebook page about this and they said:
Currently, this is the only compatible version. We have a firmware update for the Direto XR / XR-Ts on our schedule, aiming to make them Zwift Ready by the end of the year.
So it’s not ready the the Zwift Ride Smart Frame yet? But only with Zwift Cog og Click?
If you already own a Direto XR, it’s not yet compatible with virtual shifting and I recommend that you do not buy the Ride frame with an expectation that it will be coming, though it looks like it may eventually happen.
If you buy the new “Zwift Ready” Direto XR, it is compatible.
So, not all Elite Direto XR’s are compatible yet?
I thought it was a matter of firmware upgrade.
That may be what happens once they offer a firmware upgrade to you that supports virtual shifting. The way I would handle this is to wait for that firmware to be released, then test it with your existing bike or wait for positive comments from others who have tested it, and then buy the Ride frame if you still want it. I never want to be first in line for major firmware changes, but you can decide your own risk tolerance when the firmware is available.
Theoretically…but see what happened to the Kickr v5? Would not be surprised the same from older Direto XRs.
All Direto XRs are the same though, unlike different Kickr models. There are of course differences in earlier Direto models.
And that is what is funny. It looks like the exact same trainer with the exact same specs. One is working and the other one is not.
I made the huge blunder of buying the ride and expected it to work.
Lesson learned: Do read very carefully. Naming something Direto XR and flagging it compatible is not the same as an existing Direto XR.
I am now the proud owner of 17 kg of useless steel and I gave away my Zwift play and bought new pedals for the ride. What a waste of money.
You can still use it in ERG mode for now. Or look for the QZ app to let you do virtual shifting.
I know and while erg mode is good fo training it not really doing much good in TDZ or my social Sunday rides
I did the same… I assembled and gonna try to use the Frame with my older Direto XR. I’ve got it all setup but not sure what axle and spacers to use. The thru axle that came with the frame doesn’t seem to work. Anyone know?
Hi. Will Zwift ride frame fit Elite Justo smart trainer? I am not interested in virtual shifting, just running it on Erg mode.
I don’t have an Elite Justo but it should go on any trainer that supports 142mm thru-axle bikes, you just can’t pair the controls on the Ride to Zwift if the trainer doesn’t support virtual shifting, so none of the buttons will be usable.
Hi there. Did you find a solution eventually?
Yes I did…it required the 142mm thru axle adapters that came with the DiretoXR trainer (which I still had since I was using a bike with quick release axle). I’ve got everything all installed now finally, and just waiting for the firmware update to have virtual shifting. I am expecting all of the other features of the handlebar controller buttons to work (am I correct?) I plan on trying to actually ride this weekend.
No you won’t be able to use any buttons because the controls will not pair until the trainer supports virtual shifting via firmware update.

Great. So, normally up to now, you could use the zwift ride frame only on Erg mode. I have an Elite Justo and I was just wondering if the zwift frame would fit on it. What do you think?
