Elite have now officially announced this:
Hopefully there will be a firmware update for existing Direto XR owners?
On the issue of a firmware update, I asked Elite on their Facebook page and they said:
Currently, this is the only compatible version. We have a firmware update for the Direto XR / XR-Ts on our schedule, aiming to make them Zwift Ready by the end of the year.
Hi @Steve_Hammatt, welcome to the Forums! Oscar here from Zwift Support.
We appreciate the information shared and I understand how important it is for you to know more about this future update I’ll be sharing information about that.
Check this post for more info:
If you have any other questions or concerns, let us know. We’re always around and happy to help!
Best.
Thanks Oscar. I think you’ll find that I shared more up-to-date information than is in that thread - i.e. I shared info from Elite about a forthcoming firmware update (in my reply to my original post). Perhaps my information should be added to that thread?
Elite said that the Zwift cog will not be compatible for existing Direto XR owner.
There isn’t an upgrade kit for my Direto XR to be compatible with the Cog, some mechanical parts are different and it is not easy to replace them.
That’s interesting, where did they say that? Elite haven’t mentioned any hardware limitations when asked about the firmware upgrade.
I don’t imagine it’ll eventually be compatible with the Justo either?
I contacted Elite, and that’s what they said.
They are shipping compatible Diretos, but unfortunately, the Cog is not compatible with current Direto trainers.
Are you sure that’s not just the firmware issue? i.e. existing XRs will need a firmware update which isn’t available yet.
Otherwise the response you got is at odds what Elite have been saying on their Facebook page in response to questions from existing owners.
It seems that Elite either gave you the wrong information or misleading information.
I asked them on their Facebook page and this is what they said:
To ensure hardware compatibility with Direto XR-T standard trainers, you’ll need to use the Zwift Cog without a freehub, which mounts directly onto the provided one on the trainer. Additionally, you would still need to wait for the firmware update, which is expected at the end of the year.
So you just need the Cog plus a firmware update.
We can invite @marco_cav to weigh in? Enquiring minds want to know.
I hope the information you have is correct, and what i was told is wrong🤞🏻
@shooj Will this be added to the Zwift shop when it becomes available?
Thanks for sharing this, Steve! The integration of Zwift Cog and Click with the Direto XR sounds like a great step forward. It would be fantastic if existing owners could get a firmware update to unlock similar features! I wonder how much the Zwift experience will improve for those already familiar with the Direto XR. Has anyone heard anything about potential updates for current users?
@abu_hanzala welcome to Zwift forums.
Our colleagues at Elite have told us that they’re working on a firmware update for existing Directo XR and XR-T trainers in the market
