Finally the release of the FW version 87 has been done.
Now the big question for those who owns an Elite Direto XR-T with the new firmware. Can we buy the zwift smart frame that includes the Zwift Cog (no Freehub) or are we forced to buy the Zwift Cog und Click Upgrade Kit?
Looking forward to your replies, because for me is not 100% clear
If you want to use the Cog, you may have to establish what freehub you have on your Direto. Eg. if it’s Campagnolo, it won’t work. If it’s Shimano HG, it should.
But you don’t even have to put the Cog on the trainer if you don’t want to. You should be able to use the cassette that’s already on your trainer. In fact, having actual rear cogs should extend your gearing by adding manual to the virtual gears.
I don’t think it is. As I understand it, the cog is just a thing that has 1 cog (a 14-tooth one) and plastic doohickeys to take up the rest of the space a regular cassette takes. Except I was wrong… you can probably get the bike into an appropriate gear by putting the chain on the optimal cog, but you won’t be able to shift – I was forgetting you’re getting the ride frame.
But just in case you weren’t aware… you don’t need the Ride frame to get virtual shifting, if you already have a bike that you’re using on the XR-T.
all clear. No, I dont have any bike yet, so thats why I want to get the zwift ride smart frame.
Now knowing that I want to get the zwift frame, question is if I have to buy Cog and click upgrade kit separately or if this comes with the frame included?
The Ride frame comes with the Cog, but has controllers for shifting and other functions built in. You don’t need the Click. The click would be used on a existing real bike for virtual shifting.
If it’s a Direto XR then virtual shifting should work if you use the Elite Upgrado app and update the firmware. (And pair the trainer via Bluetooth, not ANT+.)
You can use the Ride or Click or Play controllers to enable virtual shifting if the trainer supports it.
Thanks. But that is the question, does it support the virtual shifting? It does not feel like it does despite the upgrade. I don’t want to experiment with click if at the end of the day I would still need a new trainer.
let us know if this works!
BTW, Zwift has updated the smart trainers compatibility list. Now I can see both Direto XR with Zwift Cog and Click and Direto XR-T (after FW upgrade) which requires the Zwift Cog.
Here the latest:
I was able to connect the trainer and the Zwift Ride to my laptop (WIN11) via BT. Controls work ok, although there is lag shifting - but the resistance still does not change while shifting or going uphill
I also tried the Zwift app - same situation, although controls work much more smoothly.
I tried calibrating the trainer - no improvement.
Lastly I went into the myTraining app (or whatever it is called) from Elite and tried it out - guess what - trainer does not respond to resistance change on the app.
As per this information from Elite it should work with the Zwift Smart Frame:
2. Is the Zwift Ride Smart Frame compatible with Elite trainers?
Yes, it is currently compatible with:
Direto XR with Zwift Cog and Click preinstalled (Zwift Ready model).
Direto XR and Direto XR-T with updated firmware and the Zwift Cog and Click Upgrade Kit (no-freehub version).
The Zwift Ride Smart Frame is compatible with the Direto XR model featuring Zwift Cog and Click preinstalled, which includes the Zwift virtual shifter, as well as with Direto XR and Direto XR-T trainers updated via the Upgrado app.
So - the issue lays with the trainer - either mechanical or the upgrade got screwed up.
I wish I ordered the whole bundle from Zwift instead :-/
Is this using Level Mode in the myEtraining app and manually changing resistance in the app? If that doesn’t result in you feeling the resistance change in the trainer then this is a trainer issue as you say. Get in touch with Elite support at Elite Support
Thanks Steve, you are right. I identified the problem but haven’t solved it.
It is the screw that moves the magnets. It is stuck. I did anything possible to clean and lubricate it but no success. I can hear the little motor trying to move it but it does not turn.
I can move it manually pretty easily by now but it does not work on it’s own.
I wish I had that knowledge before to make sure it is lubricated and properly maintained.
