Zwift on New AppleTV 4K

The good news is you can get a cheap 5th gen when everyone “upgrade”

You can buy the remote separately.

the only issue will be the BT limitation… i would like tu use STERZO…

The amount of bluetooth connections is the biggest thing for me, hopefully someone here buys one and can test it

Pair everything through ZCA.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that such an approach is often less reliable.

Your wifi connection needs to be rock solid IME.

I used to have intermittent issues pairing everything through ZCA but my wifi speed was poor.

I got a mesh system which has made the wifi more stable & not had an issue since.

same here, if it can do more than the current 3 bt connections I’m buying one immediately

GPLama did a test today. Exact same amount of BT connections as the older version. FAIL. I was going to buy one if it allowed more BT connections.

Trying to get more information on the hardware. I’ve reached out to a few devs who publish other tvOS apps with trainer support. I’ll post an update when we have firm answers on the BLE and the new remote support.

The main benefit will hopefully be improved remote support. I’ve got the new aluminium remote with dedicated arrow keys. Unfortunately zwift is only capturing trackpad events at this stage (so there’s zero improvement), but fingers crossed we’ll get support for the arrow keys as part of a future update and triggering power ups will be a much improved experience!

It certainly impacts (negatively) the social aspect of the game. I’m considering adding an (AppleTV) tag to my username to excuse my lack of in game chat :sob::joy:

Assuming you don’t want to use the standard touch keyboard to type on Zwift Companion, then you could use a BT keyboard with your ZC device.

interesting, has anyone used a BT keyboard to connect to ZCA which is being used to convert the BT from devices to the apple TV from an iPhone, are all the keyboard short cuts available on a PC available.

I have tried using Siri with the ZCA, but to be kind, its useless !

Im on an Apple TV and also have my old 2007 iMac at the side ( still “works” with the main Zwift game but the frame rate is far too low to have acceptable graphics), be good to be able to use that ( well its display and keyboard) as a “companion” !
I use it to display route profiles, etc. ( also to watch TV and play music) with its Browser,

Sorry to report that the new ATV4K has the same BLE limitations as the previous ATV4K. This was tested and reported back by a dev from another platform.

I’m still waiting to hear anything from Zwift in regard to BLE, graphics profiles, and/or new remote navigation support for the new ATV4K. Given the install base, I’d had assumed we’d have answers on this a lot faster.

To be honest, I would have expected Zwift to have had developer access that enabled them to have support for the new Apple TV 4K and remote on day 1. But :man_shrugging:

Trying to find a straight answer on the three BLE device limit is a wild goose chase. It’s definitely an Apple limitation. Question is why?!

That sucks to hear, it would make it so much easier with just one more BLE connection to connect just one more sensor!! Arrrrhhhh!! :sob:

A tad disappointing from Zwift. You’d think it would be easy to run at least the same graphics profile as the 2017 ATV.

Sure the new remote may take a little coding but a note saying “Hey, we are working on the new ATV hardware and an update will be coming soon” would be nice.

I’m currently using Zwift on the Apple TV 4K 2017 with a 4K monitor - didn’t even realise I haven’t been getting 4K resolution!

I hope Zwift update to take advantage of the latest Apple devices.

I just got the M1 IPad Pro (better external display support needed) - and would like to know if Zwift will give better performance with the newer Apple TV 4K, the iPad Pro m1 or with a Mac Mini M1 with Zwift optimised for Apple Silicon (native)

Better optimisation for Apple devices definitely needed from Zwift.
