Zwift crashing on iPad (5th Generation) whilst racing since update on April 29th, 2020

I have run Zwift on Apple TV 4K with a Wahoo Kickr for about 2 weeks and just crashed out of the TfA Stage 2 Race yesterday. I was also on the companion app. Didn’t reboot, as I was curious to see what would happen since I was still on the course, just with no leaderboard and no other riders. Finished the route, but Zwift only saved the point up to where I was booted. First issue with maybe 10 rides, mostly events/races. Could have overloaded the wi-fi on this one, but since there seems to be issues right now thought I’d throw mine in the mix.

+1 Crashed on switchBack15 during the Herd Alpe Race on Sunday 10th at 11am EST. Upon reboot, Zwift message said it didn’t save my previous session. Workout mode has not caused crashes.

iPad 4gen. 100gb available… + Companion app on iPhone was on— both running the most current iOS releases, not using Apple TV. I was out of the saddle and not touching any of the devises when Zwift crashed.

I have had the same issue 3 times today. Any update on when the fix will be issued? I am using a 7th Gen I pad and the companion app.

@shooj Thanks for the follow-up!

Two more crashes in races this week, one just now, 30 km into 34 km race. It’s really just too frustrating to use the app at the moment for events

Hi. My session has crashed during the last 3 friday “Sprintapalooza” events. It just dies about 5 mins into the event. Hasn’t happened with any other events. I use the Ipad. Is it possible to check the logs and see why this keeps happening? Thanks.

I’m using companion on my phone and the app on my windows laptop and the companion app has crashed about 2 minutes before both a group workout and a race this week. It stops registering any watts then stops pairing to the laptop app. My laptops Bluetooth is really dodgy so I can’t not use the companion app, but I find the companion app really hit or miss whether it actually works.

Same here, Zwift crashed in majority of races over the past few weeks. But never while training. Thanks for looking into that issue and keeping us informed. I hope it can be resolved soon! Regards

Hi everybody!
Today I had the first crash after 25 mins of racing. I use the IPad without any external connection. I didn’t use the companion app this time.
I could dig into the crash files on the iPad and I found the technical report of this one. Could it be useful for the support team?
Greetings!

Same issue here Zwift crashed in all races since 3 weeks ago, but it happen with iPhone 7, IPhone SE and also with app installed in the PC (Windows 10). Today the app crashed twice in two different racing events.

I’ve been following the IOS issue but first time I’ve seen a crash on Windows 10. Was it the same behavior? The program just closes and you have to log back in and repair sensors? I wish that Zwift would send out an update and correct these issues. Its been happening now since April 29th.

In about 4 or 5 weeks, I have had 4 application phalluses during an event.
Specifically, in the last 3 “Matando o Corpo” of ZESP, held the previous Saturdays at 10:00.

During the event the application removes it, for no apparent reason without the possibility of continuing in the event.
This bad function, commented in our community, is not punctual, but during these events many users have been affected, and not always the same. I am talking about several dozen affected and for at least 5 weeks in which these failures have occurred. We have also observed that there is no common connection due to the type of hardware used, since the problem has occurred on all platforms.
In my case it has happened 3 consecutive times, and in the same event and with the same settings, I have managed to finish without problems on 4 previous occasions.

I have written to support, but since May 2 I have not received any response to the case.
Can you tell me what this is all about?

In case it helps, I use an iPad 5ºGEN, Trainer Elite Turno, and connect the Trainer and a heart band to the system.

Thank you

Update I have received from the ticket I raised to Zwift Support

"At the moment, we don’t have any new news for you other than that we should have a fix for this in the next game update. It’s an error that has been rendering Zwift unusable for some folks, as you’ve astutely noted. We’re never fans of issues like that to say the least, so the teams are working their hardest on getting it sorted out.

Right now, the only thing to do is to make sure you keep your game up to date. If restarting your iPad has been helping, then by all means I encourage you to do so.

I’m sorry I don’t have a more concrete answer or timeline for you, and I promise we’re working on it. We want to make sure we keep Zwift running smoothly for everyone, so crashes are important for us to address."

Yes, I finally received a response as well which didn’t even acknowledge the bug in their program but instead instructed me to keep my game and OS up to date, reduce memory usage, force close background apps before starting Zwift and wished me luck . A bit disappointing since the IPad is my go to platform for the game. .

Yeah, I got that email first. So I replied back to them linking to this post I had started and asking for an update. Support replied passing the ticket onto the correct team for a more detailed response which was what I posted above.

Hopefully we don’t have to wait too long for the update.

Hi,

Looking for some advice. Recently I’ve been having some issues where zwift is disconnecting me from a race half way through.
It’s been working great up until now. I am using zwift on my ipad Air.

Has anyone experiences anything like this?

Thanks

Hi Greg,
It’s a problem lots of us are currently having. There are lots of posts above detailing all the issues. Zwift Support know about the problem and are working on it.

For a temporary solution I have not been using the companion app whilst racing and also rebooting my iPad after warming up in Zwift and before joining my event.

Whilst doing this I have not suffered any crashes (I have must have completed five or six races).

I’m not sure what the cause of the crashes is and we are awaiting further updates from the Zwift Support Team.

Hi will,

Thanks for your response. Hopefully they will fix it soon. Very frustrating when your giving it everything in the last 5k of a race then it chucks you off. Thank you

I have had some good luck by turning off Bluetooth on my phone when using the companion app and resetting my IPad before my session. My sessions usually include about a 20 min warmup and then switching over to a race. So:

  1. turn off IPhone Bluetooth but I do run companion app with Bluetooth off
  2. reset IPad prior to starting session

6 races and no crashes …
