Is it possible for my avatar to change routes in the middle of an event? I was riding the ZG Queen when my dog (no joke, and he didn’t eat my homework) dropped his toy under my chainring; I dismounted to retrieve it (my avatar was riding downhill with a 1% grade). When I hopped back on my bike, I noticed I was riding on a different route and the map wasn’t showing the ZGQ map anymore. I was about 15 miles into the ride. I decide to stop to write this question. Thoughts? I swear I wasn’t smoking anything .
Did you late-join the event? That’s usually why people go off-route. Another explanation can be out of date game version, so if you’re not running 1.84 that could be a reason.
It was a free ride and part of the Zwift challenges “Route Chaser: Zwift Games” number 5. Since I didn’t finish the ride, I won’t get credit, which is fine. I’ll try tomorrow and hope the problem doesn’t happen again.
Do you have a steering device paired such as a Sterzo, Rizer, Play or Ride controls? If so you should go into Zwift settings and toggle Intersection Controls so you can’t accidentally steer off the route.
Having the latest game version also matters in a free ride on a new route.
I am using Sterzo. I thought of that scenario too. Before, I exited, I made a few U turn and tried to go down a different route. No go. The orange shield stopped me from turning. I do have the latest version on my Apple TV. My setup Wahoo Kickr v5, Sterzo, and remaining connection are all Wahoo.
U turn is special because it’s affected by your speed. If you don’t care about using the Sterzo to select intersections, you should definitely flip the Intersection Controls setting. You can still steer if you disable the ability for the Sterzo to navigate intersections.
Good info. Thanks.
