I just got my new Zwift Ride bundled with the KICKR Core. I also get everything connected to my Android device and the Zwift app shows the KICKR Core as well as the Zwift Ride as connected.
Once I do a ride in Zwift I am able to shift between gears 1 to 24, like shown on the display, but there is no resistance change happening by the KICKR Core, all gears have the same low resistance.
I ensured that the KICKR Core and the Zwift Ride is on the newest firmware by using the Wahoo app and the Zwift Companion app. I also tried everything on my Pixel 9 instead of on my Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro, but with the same results.
What am I doing wrong or is my device just broken?
Regards
EDIT: I also did a spindown of the KICKR Core using the Wahoo app
similar situation here. Mine was like when I did a workout (erg on), the power/resistance can remain on the target like 6-8 seconds then went back to like 100 watts.
On free rides, the situation was better but still the power went down to like 100 ish even on a climb (avg 250-300 watts). I noticed when I changed a gear the power/resistance went back on but after few seconds the power/resistance went back down to very low (~100 watts)
I tried to make it work on my windows notebook, but the issue stays the same. Everything is connecting to the Zwift app just fine but virtual shifting does not have any effect. Please help!
I have the same problem with my Zwift Ride, which I bought just a few weeks ago. I usually ride in free mode or in events. After an FTP test in ERG mode, I can no longer get the virtual gear shift to work in free mode or during races. The gears shift but there is no change in resistance. In “training” mode everything works properly and if the ERG mode is removed, the gears shift correctly with the corresponding resistance. I have the impression that the problem could be related to the gradient, which can also be adjusted in “training” mode, but unfortunately in free mode there is no access to these settings.
I can testify on the same issue. Just went for my first ride today with my brand new zwift ride setup. I was kind of disapointed with the virtual shifting. It worked well at the beginning but then at some point when increasing the gears (like if you put all gears right side on reality so more resisitance) it looks it reached a plateau and then nothing happen the resistance stay the same even if you increase or decrease gears. I tried different gear setup 1x24, 2x12 (with flat or mixed terrain) same issue. I precise this happened with free ride mode and the repack rush in watopia as well.
Thank you all for your replies! Seems to me that we are all facing similar issues.
Unfortunately, Zwift didn’t even think about responding to my support request. This is disappointing considering how expensive the setup was and that you should pay a monthly fee for Zwift
@Olivier_Mesa: I will have a look and will try the “training” mode. Haven’t looked into it yet, as I just tried the free ride mode for base functionality.
I need to correct myself. I have found a response from zwift support in my spam folder. Hopefully I can figure out my issues with them together. I will keep you guys updated.
@Olivier_Mesa: I tried the “workout”/“training” mode now and when I switch ERG mode off to shift manually it behaves somehow wierd. From gears 1 to like 20 I cannot feel any resistance but when in the most highest gears from like 20 to 24 I feel at least some resistance, but far too little.
Hello Markus,
Thank you for your answers. In “workout/training” mode everything works perfectly, even when I disconnect the ERG mode. The speeds are correct and the resistance changes correctly.
The only problem is really in free mode and for events. In these modes, the speeds change but the resistance does not, whether in speed 1 or 24.
I am also in contact with Zwift support, who have advised me on several things, but I have already done everything up to uninstalling/reinstalling the program.
Zwift is installed on my PC by default, but I tried it on a tablet and the problem was the same.
Let’s keep in touch to try to solve these problems. Thank you
Yesterday I realized my wahoo kickr core firmware was not up-to-date, I made the update through the wahoo app, I did a short session then and it improved a lot the virtual shifting issues I had. I will further confirm it works on other the different zwift modes.
Maybe that’s something to explore too and also update the firmware of the virtual shifters controllers through the zwift app.
Unfortunately not, I am still in contact with the Zwift support, but progress is very slow. I had to wrote with three different Support Members yet. Currently they require me to deactivate ANT+ on my Android Device which does not support ANT+, which is annoying…
I tried to help myself by testing different apps. On rouvy I am facing the exact same issues with virtual shifting. With qdomyos-zwift and MyWhoosh it does work, but it’s not exactly the setup I want… But at least qz+mywhoosh is subscription free, so you might try it yourself.
I also checked the strength of the Bluetooth Low Energy connection between the trainer and my Android device with the “nRF connect” app, but it seems to be OK and stable enough.
On top of that I tried to debug the Zwift logs (tap 3 times on the Zwift logo on the starting screen) by myself. It seems that Zwift connects correctly to the KICKR Core and the Zwift Ride using BLE, I can see that in the logs. I also see some virtual shifting events in the logs, but I don’t know what it means.
I’m on a PC with Bluetooth for Zwift Ride and ANT+ for my heart rate monitor. Since the first installation, everything has been configured correctly and it worked perfectly until last week.
Why is this no longer the case?
The change occurred after an FTP test with the ERG activated, even though I never ride in this mode.
I also tried leaving the ANT+ disconnected and I also installed Zwift on a tablet, but the same problem occurred each time.
This is Haziel from Zwift, I’m glad you shared your inquiry here. I understand that you want to enjoy virtual shifting with Zwift so that you have access to a full experience.
You can control when to use virtual shiting turning on and off on your in game settings.
Also, your current gear is displayed in the HUD when riding.
Additionally, I recommend taking a look at this article from Zwift Insiders about virtual shifting.)
I hope this helps, and if you have other questions, please contact us.
