Video Screenshots not working on PC [8GB RAM]

My video screenshots have a bug. After every ride, they get turned off, and I have to go back into settings to turn it back on for another ride. Also, the video clip does not upload to Zwift activity or Strava.

Hi @Michael_Ashton, welcome to the Forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.

It sounds like a hassle to have to turn the feature back on after every ride and not see your video clip uploaded to your Zwift activity or Strava.

I’ve reviewed the logs, and your CPU, Intel(R) Core™ i5-10300H, is compatible with the video screenshot feature (it’s supported for Intel Core i5, 9th Generation, and newer). Based on this article.

However, I noticed some patterns in the log files that indicate the feature might be turned off automatically after each ride:

  • [VIDEO_CAPTURE] Changing default enablement from true to false
  • [VIDEO_CAPTURE] forcing player setting to OFF

I noticed that you recently updated to version 1.86.0 on March 14, 2025, but this sounds like a recent issue from your side. Can you confirm when the issue started?

Hi @Michael_Ashton
Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I peeked at your server logs. It’s because your PC is at the minimum threshold at 8 GB of RAM.

Starting with game version 1.86, we disabled Video Screenshots to Off in your settings menu on Windows machines with 8GB RAM or less. Video Screenshots has the potential to cause much more problematic issues, like freezes and crashes.

Is your PC the type with a socket that makes inexpensive RAM upgrades easy? Or is it the type of motherboard where the RAM is soldered in place and not upgradeable?

The update notes say less than 8gb, not 8gb or less? Less than 8gb fundamentally likely means 6gb or less, doesn’t it?

Why would you keep turning it off for us, when we can turn it on before each ride and it works?

Please keep it turned on when I select that I want it on.

explains why my settings keep reverting if 8gb isn’t enough now

@evan-zwift has the option now been removed completely for machines with 8gb or less? I no longer see the option to enable them in the options

Same here option now removed?

I have never had any issues from this video screen shot feature - really enjoyed having that feature enabled

What’s the CPU model?

Hi folks, very sorry about this issue. We’re piloting video screenshot support for the new(ish) Intel Core Ultra-series CPUs and unintentionally disabled support for some Intel Core i3-series CPUs. This will be corrected shortly.

Edit: This should now be restored to its previously normal state the next time you open Zwift. If you still have any issues with Video Screenshots unexpectedly not being available please let us know!

It’s the 8gb and less still going to be disabled by default?

Yes, disabled by default, but can be enabled in Settings.

I have the option back - thank you for fast action and fix.

Just so I understand we still need to turn it on again every time we open the app?

I know it can but why was 8gb deemed not to be sufficient to run when they’ve worked perfectly fine since they were brought in? It’s annoying to have a machine that’s more than capable of running zwift but having to go into the options every single time to enable the setting
