Crashing when trying to save activity or disabling Video-Screenshots

Hi, been using Zwift for a week now and the experience has been beyond frustrating. I’m not able to save a single activity because Zwift is crashing every time I try saving it after I’m done. I googled the issues and found a post where several people with the same problem wrote that disabling video-screenshots solved the issue for them. So I tried to do that but Zwift crashes every single time I disable that option and try leaving the settings menu, resulting in the change not being applied.

I tried contacting Zwift, but the support page constantly 404s. I tried starting a chat with them, but the ‘start chat’ button is entirely without function, hence this post, I really don’t know where else to go.

I’m running Zwift on a PC with a Ryzen 5 5560U using the iGPU Radeon RX Vega 6 with all the most recent drivers on Windows 11, all updates installed. I run a few games on that machine, 2D and 3D, and everything works perfectly, it’s just Zwift that keeps crashing over and over again, not saving my activites.

Try editing prefs.xml to disable it

Also recommend > 8GB RAM installed in machines with the AMD iGPU

Hi Ronald,

Welcome to the forums. I’m not from Zwift but will try to help out.

Is anything else running in the background?

Also have a look at the Windows logs:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000098117/processors.html

Particularly this one:

Use event viewer:

  • Open the Event Viewer by pressing Windows + X and selecting Event Viewer.
  • Navigate to Windows Logs > System.
  • Look for any critical errors or warnings around the time of the crash. These entries might provide information about the cause of the crash.

Failing that, it could be worth an re-install of Zwift as well.

Thank you for all your answers! I think the issues has been worked around. I found that I could change the video-screenshot setting from the main menu - up until now I’ve always tried to change this during an activity. Everything seems to be working now - I can even open the settings and save changes as long as I don’t touch the video screenshot option. Everything seems to be linked to that one feature.

Thank you for keeping us informed about your crash issue. This is Juan from Zwift.

Basically, The video screenshot causes freezing/crashing because in general, the availability of the video screenshot will depend on how old is your device, less performant devices are less likely to have the feature.

The most likely answer is that the game is trying to use a resolution and/or frequency that your monitor could not support. Anyhow, I’m glad to know that everything is fine now.

If you need further assistance in the future, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you, this solved it for me!
