Unable to tick box of controllers of Zwift Ride Frame [ANT+]

I bought the new Zwift Ride (Frame+Wahoo Kickr core), but when pairing the controllers in the Zwift game, I cannot tick the little box. See the photo of my Zwift game on PC (I have the newest softeware: v1.69 on windows).

Am I the only one? What do I do wrong?
Some things I have already tried:

  • Re-install Zwift
  • Re-check whether every device has the newest firmware (play controllers and Kickr Core)
  • Also connected the two Zwift controllers (both; seperately) though bluetooth to my PC as you would any other bluetooth device. This is not part of the instructions Zwift gives in their video on Youtube.
  • Paired through mobile phone in the game

But whatever I do, I still cannot tick the box as you can see in this photo:

One thing that did catch my attention: on my photo I see that my PC has found a “Zwift Ride 9ABA”. Technically this is the name of one of the two controllers. As you can see in the screenshot of the official video by Zwift, they show that the game should find a “Zwift Frame 7879”…

Please help…

Hi @Den83_Hoogeboom_CS01, welcome to the Zwift Forums! I’m Oscar, working with Zwift.

I appreciate the information shared and the picture and screenshot, this helped us to understand your inquiry and we know how important it is for you to be able to pair your handlebars, I will be providing information.

I’d like to let you know that I was able to see that you already opened a support ticket and our team will be working with you directly.

Best,

@Den83_Hoogeboom_CS01 on the top screenshot, it looks like your trainer may be paired using ANT+ rather than BLE. Since virtual shifting only works over BLE and we only allow you to pair a Ride if you’re connected to a trainer and in a way that supports virtual shifting. Cab you confirm if you’re using BLE or ANT+ to connect to your trainer?

Hi @Den83_Hoogeboom_CS01

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I’m looking at your server logs and what @nate-zwift says is correct - your Wahoo is pairing to the game via ANT, and that’s not going to work. Virtual Shifting requires that your trainer signals and the controllers are all paired over Bluetooth. Unless you have a heart rate monitor that pairs over ANT only - you can simplify your life by unplugging the ANT dongle from your PC.

Not sure where you read this advice, but this is incorrect. You should not pair the trainer or the controllers to the OS of your computer as you would Bluetooth earbuds. If you do - the Bluetooth signal will already be bonded and won’t be available to the Zwift app.

Please try those two things, and let us know if that clears it up? TIA.

That solved it! Wauw, I didn’t realize it was that simple

Up to a week ago I owned a Tacx Neo 1 (2016) and all those years I had that connected through a dedicated ANT+ dongle, which worked like a charm. This dongle was still attached to my PC when I installed the Frame and Kickr Core. When I booted up the Kickr Core for the first time a few days ago, it automatically paired through ANT+, so I assumed that that was the best way of pairing and never realised/bothered to re-asses that assumption…

Many many many thanks

@Den83_Hoogeboom_CS01

Woo! We appreciate you reporting back and letting us know that cleared up the problem!

Hi I’ve the same issue, I’ve connected now via Bluetooth and it’s all good except I suffer a lot of Bluetooth dropouts hence why I’ve always used ant+ that’s been rock solid what can I do to stop the dropouts or else I’ve spent a fortune a created a poor experience for myself

Hi @Iain_callaghan7740, welcome to the forums. There are a few things you can do to improve the signal.

  • use a USB extension cable to get a bluetooth dongle as close as possible to the trainer (if you are using built in bluetooth, consider getting an external dongle, built in usually has poor signal strength).
  • eliminate other bluetooth signals in the area that could be causing interference (things you don’t always think of can cause issues like fans and microwaves).
  • drop a log file into www.zwiftalizer.com and see if that can help determine your signal issues. Also have a look at his video here:

Hi,

I am having this issue, I just purchased Zwift Ride and it’s doing my head in, I’ve had it for 5 days and still haven’t been able to use it for various setup reasons…I’m close to sending it back.

Anyway, my trainer (Wahoo Kickr Core) is connected via Bluetooth however I still get the same issue the guy above received, I can’t select the controller.

Please help!

Make sure the Kickr Core firmware is up to date. If you have old firmware on it, from before virtual shifting was supported, then it’s expected that you can’t pair the ride controllers.

Great thanks Paul, I’ll give that a try :+1:t3:

No joy! It detects the controllers/handlebars but won’t let me select them, very frustrating. Its basically a massive waste of space at the moment.

Is it definitely a Kickr Core and not an older Kickr (e.g. v4 or v5 Kickr?).

Just from the glimpse of your pairing screen, I think Steve is right. It is not a Kickr Core, so you need a new trainer, or return the Ride frame, or check out some of the recent discussion in this thread.

Personally I would just send it back and use a bike with the Play controllers instead, but if a new trainer is in the budget there are some nice options on the market. The list of supported trainers is linked below. Note that some of them are not yet available.

Hi @Greg_Du-feu and welcome to the forums! This is Alejandro from Zwift. Appreciate you used this space to post your query, and I couldn’t let this go without jumping in to help you out! First, I want to apologize for the delay in getting back to you. I’ve found the ticket you opened via email, and I’m happy to see one of my Support Colleagues already assisted you.

If there is anything else we can help you with, please do not hesitate to write us at support@zwift.com.

SO SO frustrated. I’ve been a Zwift customer for a couple years, I have over 6,000 miles logged in Zwift land with an old bike and one of the original Wahoo kickrs, hooked up to Apple TV (Zwift) and controlled with Zwift Companion on the iPhone.

I bought a Zwift Ride (Wahoo KICKR CORE for Zwift Ride, Zwift Ride Smart Frame, Zwift Ride Handlebars), at the end of September thinking that it’d be a nice upgrade and for the life of me, I cannot get the controllers to work… finally got them all connected to the iPhone today but shifting doesn’t work. UGGHH.

For $1400, everything should work out of the box and now I’m outside of the 30 day window so can’t return it.

Have you updated the firmware on the trainer? By default it won’t have virtual shifting capability so needs an update for the controllers to connect.
