Garmin Speed and Cadence Sensor 2 problems

I’m also having this problem. I have a Fluid 2, brand new Garmin Speed and Cadence 2, and have tried on my iPhone 11 Pro and older iPad. My Fenix Garmin watch connects to the speed/cadence sensors and displays speed accurately, but Zwift doesn’t show correct speed. Every 15-30 seconds throughout my rides the speed drops to 0, shows me getting off my bike, then starts back up again but I’m pedaling consistently the whole time and my Fenix shows me at 15-20mph. Then I’ll be cooling down and Zwift will show me going 30+ mph when I’m actually at 10mph. I’ve done a ton of troubleshooting, and since my watch transmits accurate speed, it seems to be a Zwift issue. Hoping for a fix, or help if I haven’t set something up right!

Do Zwift staff check their forums?

Edit: My Garmin Speed and Cadence sensors arrived a few hours ago. Speed paired but cadence said no data received. I disconnected it from my watch (Garmin Forerunner) and Zwift, then reconnected via Zwift and it worked without any issues.

Hi all, I have the same issue. Dumb trainer + Garmin Speed and Cadence Sensor 2.

At first, it wasn’t working at all. The devices would connect/pair up and as OP mentioned no speed information was transmitting to Zwift therefore I was peddling and no movement.

I unpaired the cadence sensor and that seems to work. Somehow, when I start Zwift it finds the cadence sensor and I have no idea how. but I doubt I’m getting accurate info as I get about 60 - 67 RPM even when I’m clearly blasting over 110.

One thing I want to mention, I paired this with my phone first and then watch Zwift on my laptop + Zwift companion app. Still dont get the cadence data but better than nothing.

I’m a paid member, just wanted to add my experience to the others so hopefully Zwift gets notice of this and can fix. Thanks!

Same issue with Speed Sensor 2 (SS2) + Cadence Sensor; they both work fine with my Garmin watch, which I assume uses ANT+. Unable to use reliably with Zwift, which has stopped me from subscribing.

The problem seems to be the connection via Bluetooth (BLE) to my iPhone. Garmin requires the SS2 to be paired and set-up using the Garmin Connect app, which also updates the software on the sensor if required, sets wheel size etc. The cadence sensor does not require the same set-up & pairing via Garmin Connect app.

I managed to complete the free 25km ride on Zwift and then during my 7 day trial logged two further rides, which unfortunately took ages to get the SS2 sensor to connect and not show ‘no signal’. Trial & error, such as removing the batteries, re-pairing with Garmin Connect, turning Bluetooth on/off etc. occasionally worked but I more often than not gave up and just rode my turbo without Zwift and used my Garmin watch to track speed, cadence, distance & heart rate - which all worked fine!

I currently have a support ticket open with Garmin, as even sending me a replacement SS2 did not fix the issue. This appears to be a known issue with more recent iOS devices, that Garmin are looking into; I’ve sent them logs & screenshots of the issue. My sense is that the sensors work fine with ANT+ but the SS2 is unreliable when using BLE.

Hi all. Just wondered if anyone came with a fix for this. I just got my Garmin speed 2 sensors and I am facing exactly the same problems described here. Cadence works fine but speed stays at 0 mph even when it’s connected. Seems like Zwift didn’t figure it out? I’m connecting via an iPhone 6. Thanks

I feel like my Garmin Cadence Sensor is off by about 20-25 RPM. If have it connected to the head unit, it’s a way different reading than if I’m connected to Zwift.

I also have to connect by AirPods to the MacBook in order to connect the speed and cadence sensors. I have no idea why, and it drove me nuts for a half hour before a ride until I randomly connected the AirPods and it started working. So, I have to make sure I connect the AirPods for anything else to connect. Super random.

Hi I’m having same problem zwift sort it out.
You haven’t even replied to people, we are paying good money for something that isn’t working correctly.
I thought it was speed sensor 2 not working but after ordered another one this also isn’t connecting to swift, works with my fenix watch perfect so it’s 100% zwift problem.
Please at least get back to people as it’s very frustrating and your losing valuable customers costing money

Yip, its worked fine for for the last 5 months, then two days ago after the update, speed works but no cadence. Very frustrating.

I have the Kinetic Rock and Roll Control trainer, pairing with iOS, and cadence doesn’t work. So tried to pair a Garmin Speed and Cadence sensor to the cadence sensor connection but it continues to gather data from Kinetic. It’s frustrating since my workouts are power and cadence based and my cadence shows at 60-ish no matter how fast I pedal. I’ll return the Garmin and after my 12 week training program reconsider Zwift unless someone has some insight or ideas.

I have the same problem!
One year a go it worked fine. I had the same devises. Now I can connect but the cadence is standing still on 60 and the watt around 90 all the time. Soooo frustrating!

Same issue here. Encountered while trying to set everything up. Initially my cadence sensor worked now it doesn’t. My speed and cadence sensor are new and have fresh batteries. They connect to my Garmin devices fine.

I have the same problem.
I hope there will be a quick patch.

iphone7+ / ios 14.3 / trainer elite supercrono mag force

ios 13 did not have this problem.

It’s good to see I’m not alone! So frustrating that Zwift is so problematic connecting to both sensors. The speed sensor is obviously the one you need to ride but it’s infuriating to be ready to ride only to then spend 20 minutes getting the two to connect!

Wife had similar problems with cadence staying around 60, she was pairing it to a Mac computer. I had a Garmin usb ANT dongle laying around, plugged it in and the problem was fixed.

Hi all, exactly the same issues I have been fighting with multiple strategy to get working with Zwift but seems Zwift is fundamentally the issue and I need to move to a different virtual biking app. Will cancel my membership as it seem Zwift are clearly no interested in our set up and only direct drive set up. Shame, hopefully some one at Swift will actual read this posts and do something in the future. Very disappointed with app. Will put a Apple review to highlight the issue to others

My setup with Elite Volare Mag dumb trainer and Garmin Speed and Cadence 2 has been working absolutely fine until last night, aaaannnddd nothing. Changed both batteries as I read they can run into problems when 1 of the batteries is low, but no luck!

have ordered an Ant+ key and USB extension, hopefully that will sort it!

I’m new to zwift and it worked on my first go but hasn’t worked since and says connected ?

I was able to fix this issue by changing the placement of the sensor. Initially I had it parallel to the spinning wheel (image 1). But after attaching it to the rotor it started to work like a charm. Placing it there was a little tricky but I haven’t had any issues since then.

I have a slightly similar issue.

I have both Garmin Speed and Cadence 2 sensors. Until last week they worked okay on Zwift.
But now the cadence sensor is detected on setup. The cadence data appears on Zwift Companion. But the cadence data does not show on Zwift and so the data doesnt make its way to Strava

I have a Garmin HR sensor. Never had any issues with it

Any advice out there on Garmin sensors greatly appreciated

Hello I have the same problem. For two days, Zwift no longer recognizes my Garmin sensors. I have tested everything I saw in the forum as a solution to no avail.
