Effort on downhills Saris H3

Whoa…Thanks! Hope you get your trainer back soon! :slight_smile:

Cool, thanks for the reply.

Hi Gerrie

I have attached a screen shot of both the bluetooth connection and the ant+ connection, like I say all shows up on the screen but not controllable.

Kind Regards

Warren

Do you know how to disable bluetooth on your pc, if it is a separate dongle just unplug it.

Okay, Me desperate for my Zwift fix and despite my H3 issues I decided to “riff” off what Matthew did.

I tried using my still very powerful mid-2012 MacBook pro retina to run Zwift instead of the Apple TV. It couldn’t find the H3 once I selected my Favero Assioma pedals as power and cadence. So based on Matthews work, I decided to look into system preferences and see what was showing up in Bluetooth connections. There were the Assioma pedals and my Tickr HRM but no Saris H3. I told my Mac to forget the Assiomas on Bluetooth. Then I logged in again. Now it offered the H3 and the Tickr. I decided to accept the H3 as power, cadence and controllable. Now I said let’s go and chose the Hilly route as my test. But first, I decided to forget the H3 for power and cadence and Zwift offered the Assiomas which I accepted. Things were really looking up.

I took off on the hilly route and rode a couple of kilometers up the hill pulled a U-turn and darn if the H3 didn’t actually work properly. Feeling confident I went to the start of the Tour for All stage three B group, Road to Ruins. While my legs were still fresh and I could actually tell if the H3 was working properly it seemed to be.

Now two days later:

The ANT+ dongle I ordered from Amazon showed up an hour ago. This is the Amazon recommended $24 piece. The packaging says no drivers needed from Mac OS X. I plugged it in and logged into Zwift. My Tickr HRM and Assioma pedals showed up as Bluetooth like two days ago and the H3 controllable showed FEC and the H3 light was solid white. (Just as Gerrie described.)

Again I took off on the Hilly Route KOM to test it out. Rode to the KOM banner and the H3 did as expected on the way there. I pulled a U-turn and rode down then back up it the H3 responded properly at each gradient change.

I am glad it is working. Is the below image the one you ordered from Amazon? While I have the BlueTooth working, I would like the option to use the ANT+ and maybe the ANT+ dongle I have is the issue.

Matthew,

Yes, that is the one. I am using MacOS Catalina and my H3 was recognized on FEC immediately. Amazon took one day longer than they promised and 5 days total till it arrived via USPS. Prime shipping isn’t what it was pre-virus.

Is tehre a fix to the H3 / Zwift problems?

I have a H3, connecting via companion app (IOS) to ATV. Today resistance was all over the place (on a free ride, not workout). Uphill or downhill, resistance did not match at all. I also tried to connect directly to ATV without the companion app, did not fix it. This is very frustrating - and ultimately makes Zwift worthless. I appreciate things are difficult at the moment, but if not fixed soon, Zwift will have to offer some form of payment pause / refund.

Hi @Jakob_Hansen

Welcome to the forum,

Zwift is aware and working on a fix for Controllable over Bluetooth.

If you don’t pair the controllable function you can use the trainer as a fluid trainer. (not the best solution but you can still get a good workout)

see: Effort on downhills Saris H3 - #27 by Gerrie_Delport_ODZ?

Thanks. Is there a rough time schedule for the fix?

I do have a 4iiii HR monitor which has ANT+ to BT bridge functionality. Would connection the Hammer to that and then bridge BT to ATV be an interim fix? Has anyone tried that?

@Jakob_Hansen

The H3 power numbers is still good, Zwift just can’t control the resistance over Bluetooth.

You can try that, I don’t have a 4iii to do the test. Let us know if it worked.

OK, will give it a go over the next couple of days and let you know if this is a temp fix.

Just an update on this. I decided to return my H3, as it also developed a knocking noise.

Hey everyone, great news! We’ve verified the fixes for resistance on Saris H3 on Apple TV and Android! The fix will roll out in the next game update.

When is that? That fix is one of several being QA tested and rolled up before we push it out some time next week. Thank you all for your patience.

I purchased that exact one from Amazon and it worked great. This is the first time I have been able to control my h3 via the ANT+ dongle. May be the original dongle I had was not working properly, although it was the Cycleops dongle that they recommend for the h3. Thank you for sharing which one you purchased.

@shooj
Great news. Thank you for the update and all of the efforts and sacrifice of your h3 to the cause. The support is greatly appreciated.

Matthew,

No worries, so glad it worked for you. You and Gerrie were the one’s that made me start wondering about a work around. I did a Zwift workout as that seemed like the ultimate proving ground and it worked flawlessly. It is a small hassle dragging my MacBook downstairs but it works. RIDE ON!

Hi, will you let the Users know in this forum when the fix has been deployed this week? I’m also struggling with the same resistance issue. Thanks for your support.
