With the update I received for Zwift yesterday (1.97.2), I now get the message: “Your smart trainer currently doesn’t support virtual shifting. However, you can still use your controllers for the other actions within Zwift.”
The problem is that we can no longer actually use the controllers for other actions. This large message repeatedly pops up and disappears every second, preventing us from selecting any other screen features.
I’m using a Kickr v5, and I understand it doesn’t support virtual shifting. That’s fine, but this update has made the Play Controllers completely unusable. This issue affects anyone riding with Play Controllers on trainers that don’t support virtual shifting.
While there could be other explanations, it’s possible that sweat ingress has damaged your controllers in a way that activates your shift buttons without you realising.
This is possible, but I have been using the controllers for less than a week with about 4 hours ride time. I also tried disabling the right and left controllers, using one at a time. Same annoying message with right and left only. Zwift is sending me new controllers, so I will see if that helps. We should still be able to dismiss this message and not have it show again.
Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I see that you’ve emailed my Support Team colleague and they’re sending you replacement controllers. That should help the second issue you raised in the email thread: controllers won’t stop buzzing.
I took at a look at your server logs and noticed that your current set of Play controllers are running on slightly out of date firmware. When you receive your replacements, please make sure that you update those to the latest firmware using the Zwift Companion app. Instructions are here.
Our community here is super knowledgeable, and willing to help! But if you need deeper one-on-one assisnnace from Zwift’s Support team please resume your email thread.
