No virtual shifting

I own a Wahoo Kickr and Zwift Play controllers. Just added a Zwift Cog today, with the hopes of using Virtual Shifting going forward. Virtual shifting is nowhere to be seen in the app. My controllers are connected via Bluetooth and I am connected via the Zwift app as well. Virtual shifting just does not exist in the settings.

  1. Check for firmware updates for the Play controllers in the Zwift Hardware menu in the Companion app
  2. Check for firmware updates for the Kickr in the Wahoo app (https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/en-us/articles/13354735432850-How-to-Update-Firmware-on-KICKR-trainers-BIKEs-and-RUN)
  3. Verify that the model of Kickr you are using is a Core, V6, or MOVE. All others do not support virtual shifting (https://support.wahoofitness.com/hc/en-us/articles/4407140982674-Identify-a-KICKR-trainer)
  4. If an ANT+ dongle is present, it must not be used to pair the trainer. Remove it for testing.

Were you using the Kickr previously with cassette? FWIW, the Cog would not be a necessary purchase for virtual shifting if it is a compatible model of Kickr and you already had the Play controllers.

Hi @Nathan_Lukeson_VBAR,

Welcome back to Zwift Forums. I am Nelson from Zwift Support.

I see you are using a KICKR V4. Please note that only the Wahoo KICKR V6 is compatible with virtual shifting. V5 or older versions won’t be updated, as confirmed by Wahoo.

If your Zwift Cog order is within the return window, you can start the return process in our Return Request portal.

If you require any assistance, don’t hesitate to contact us at Zwift Support. We will be there for you.

Hi @Nathan_Lukeson_VBAR

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I’m able to look at your server logs and noticed that your KICKR is using firmware version 3.5.2. That most likely means yours is a KICKR v4, but you should verify which one it is. Wahoo’s support page can help identify it.

This Wahoo support page outlines which of their trainers can support Virtual Shifting. The KICKR v5 and older versions don’t have enough memory on board to run the required firmware.
