I bought the Zwift Ride with the Zwift controller, which I connected to the trainer I already had — the Wahoo Kickr V6. In the Zwift app, when trying to pair, I received a message that in order for virtual shifting to work, I need to upgrade the trainer to the latest firmware version.
After updating, my controllers work with the exception of virtual shifting. All buttons work, including the brakes and steering. However, the crucial virtual shifting does not appear.
When I press the buttons for gear shifting, I feel the vibration, but I am not able to see any option to enable/disable virtual shifting in the app, which means that virtual shifting does not work at all.
I am connecting to the devices using a new MacBook Air with the latest operating system.
I did. I received a message that in order for virtual shifting to work, I need to upgrade the trainer to the latest firmware version. After updating, my controllers work with the exception of virtual shifting. I’m wondering maybe I should restore Zwift Ride to factory settings so it can “check” Wahoo Kickr V6 compatibility again?
Have you enabled VS on zwift in ride menu…menu settings think it is under hardware. You need to be connected to zwift to enable it ? Only have to do it once. Connect to trainer as if you are going to ride. Pick a loop. Menu will then appear. Menu Settings Hardware…enable VS. when you start riding Gear8 will show up. Takes a few seconds to calibrate…then increase the gears. Notice on my V6 takes about 20-30 sec before it becomes functional.
Thanks for bringing this query to our attention regarding the virtual shifting! This is Jose, from Zwift support.
I carefully reviewed your trainer’s firmware and noticed that you are currently using version 4.5.74. This firmware version is associated with the Wahoo KICKR V5, not the KICKR V6. This may explain why you are unable to connect to our virtual shifting, as the V5 model is not compatible with this feature. I’m sharing an article with you that provides more information.
Hi Jose…i recently changed bikes onto my V6 kickr. The first one has a 50/34 crankset and VS works right away as my avatar moves. The newer 52/36 crankset takes until the avatar moves at least 30sec before vs kicks in. Gear 8 shows up as I start but the gear changes do not kick in until about 30 sec. Seems to take a lot longer to calibrate. Then everything works fine.I have timed it every day. Is this normal ? Thanks.
Thank you for your reply! This is Jose again. It seems that there may be an interruption in the data being sent from the trainer to the game. I recommend checking this article to verify your connections and ensure that your trainer is calibrated properly. If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact us.
