Zwift play stuck brake

I tried to update my Zwift play controllers yesterday and no today, the right controller has gone nuts. Full break with vibration when trying to ride. I thought there was an issue with the game until I tried playing with the brake sensitivity in the settings.

I haven’t heard any other reports like this so I don’t know how it relates to the firmware change, but the one idea that popped into my head was that the braking sensitivity setting might have been reset when you paired the newly updated controls. In other words, my question is whether you previously had Braking Sensitivity off but after the update it reverted to default settings. That could have exposed a defect that was already present but not visible due to the previous settings. Did you previously make use of the braking feature?

My right play controller has gone in exactly the same way as this. I believe they’re quite susceptible to sweat and general corrosion, so you have to be quite careful with them.

Your best solution is to turn off braking completely (it’s not really used in Zwift anyway), as well as turning off ā€˜haptic feedback’ in your settings. This stops the brake from being applied and stops the controller from vibrating

Yeah that is a pretty common problem, which is what made me wonder whether there was simply a strange coincidence of it coming up immediately after the firmware update, or if it had been previously hidden but exposed by the firmware update, or if it actually has something to do with the firmware update. Personally I would not even know if my Ride controls failed in this way since I always have haptics and braking disabled.

Fair point, although it does sound a very odd issue for firmware. Hopefully the treatment works for either diagnosis!

There’s another report of the FB Zwift hype page.

Question is whether they are having the same problem as you, or if they’re having the issue discussed in a couple other topics here where the controllers apparently didn’t link together properly

the CA app said the update was available so I tried again and it bricked. update failed and it’s been stuck here for about 24 hours.

Does a reset do anything? (Hold down power button 30+ seconds)

Nope tried a few times yesterday. I figured I was waiting for the battery to run its course

+24 hours.

Hi

one of my team mates had the same issue, I think he carried out the reset procedure, then he posted this:-

I’ve now done about 10 updates over 6 hours and finally they say its all good - what a polava - proof in the pudding tomorrow but its gotta be better than going out of the pen this morning in second gear with no shifting available

There is also a calibration procedure but your only meant to carry that out if told to by support.

Had the same thing (ages ago) brakes just randomly turned on with no explanation, did do a re-calibration at the time, but didn’t want to risk it happening in a race so just turned off the braking in game…
