Since updating this on Thursday when prompted, the controllers disconnect within seconds. I have recalibrated them several times, tried to unpair and repair them on Companion.
These are my second set I have had for less than two weeks as they were replaced due to the first pair were stuck on braking. Before that, the right controller had issues connecting. The replacement worked absolutely fine until this update was rolled out.
I have emailed Support as since purchasing the controllers, they have failed more times than worked.
I am still having disconnects, from my perspective not much has changed with the 1.2.1 firmware update.
My controllers operated reliably without dropouts prior to the recent update. I updated to 1.2 .1 and now the contollers disconnect and then reconnect periodically with the haptic buzz signalling each occurence. The time between dropouts is somewhat random with the interval being between ~3 to ~5 minutes. If there were an option I would go back to the previous version 'till this is sorted. So, I would say this release is not optimal.
Iām having the same issue as Edward, Emma & Max. After installing the latest firmware, both controllers disconnect and connect every few minutes. A message āSTEERING DEVICE DISCā¦ā can be seen where the āRide Onā notifications appear. Before that update, I had maybe one or two issues in total for the past 3 1/2 months (5 rides per week).
Having the same problem here since the update. Before I had no connection problems. Now it seems that mainly the right controller loses connection every few minutes.
I had a disconnect yesterday for the first time, showed steering device disconnected this is with 1.2.1 firmware
Same issue with 1.2.1 as everyone else. I had no problems with 1.2.0 but now it disconnects and reconnects every couple of minutes and then eventually stops working completely. Iām at the point where Iāve removed them from my bike until this is resolved. Can we please at least revert to 1.2.0?
I have not read all the posts in this thread, but I seem to have a different issue.
I can sit and wait at the pairing screen for over a minute, and the left controller will not pair. The right controller pairs, as evidenced by the battery icon. The steering box does not turn blue to indicate complete pairing.
If I click on the steering box, uncheck both Play controllers, wait for them to reappear, check them, and both pair right away.
I do not have dropouts that I notice during the rides.
I do have a KICKR BIKE STEER, but it is not selected for steering.
3 posts were split to a new topic: Zwift Play Controllers disconnect and do not reconnect [October 2023]
Hello @Doug_Ox , Iām sorry to hear that about your wifeās controllers. There are some different troubleshooting options, depending on the color that the Zwift Play LEDs are flashing.
- Flashing green: The Zwift Play controller is charging.
- Flashing orange: The Zwift Play controller has a low battery.
- Flashing red: The Zwift Play controller has an error.
- Flashing blue: The Zwift Play controller is ready to pair.
Support will be happy to assist on any of these, especially since the Play are not automatically reconnecting.
Hi folks,
Iāve removed the solution tag on my previous post, as I can see that some Zwifters are still experiencing rapid intermittent disconnection/reconnection issues. Iām flagging this up to our developers at HQ.
In the meantime, it still looks like the most effective current workaround is to use the Zwift Companion app as a bluetooth bridge.
Please let me know if you experience any platform-specific disconnection issues regarding your Zwift Play (e.g. they only disconnect ā¦over native BLE on my PC; ā¦when I run Zwift on my Android; ā¦over ZC bridge to my Mac). This should help dial in the next round of fixes.
Hey Rowdy - thanks for following up with us. In my case discussed above I am using a PC with BLE. I was good on 1.2.0 and all heck broke loose when I upgraded to 1.2.1. Iāll try using my phone as a bridge in the interim. Thanks!
I always use the companion app as a bridge. Seems to work, perfectly
Mac over Bluetooth (BLE I guess). Severe connection problems since 1.2.1
Little to none problems prior to that. One or two dropouts in total (over 3 1/2 months, 5 rides a week).
/E:
How do I only pair Zwift Play through my phone?
Another data point that may be of use with regard to this issue. In game I was swapping frames in my garage. When I went back from the game to make aother selection I was locked out of the frame selection while the controllers were disconnected. Shortly after reconnection I could access my bicycle frame selection again. Hope this helps the software guys find the errant code.
Updated to 1.2.1 last night and same old dropout issues, not as frequent as previous firmwares (every 30-60s) no every few minutes.
On my second set of plays and always have dropouts every ride, although now its always the left and previously was the right.
PC with BLE, companion app does seem to make the stable but always worried about having trainer dropouts with that.
@Alexander_Koch2 , In order to limit only some devices to a specific bluetooth connection (either native bluetooth low energy or BLE over Zwift Companion), you would need to connect the other devices over ANT+ FE-C protocol. This is possible on your Mac if you have a compatible ANT+ dongle and your trainer and HRM broadcast ANT+ signals. Otherwise, itās not currently possible to split pairing between native and ZC bridge bluetooth signals.
Thank you, @Edward_Fish . Iāll double check this. Just to be certain, can you confirm that you werenāt moving at the time the frame selection was locked out? Even if youāre coasting downhill, frames canāt be changed until you come to a complete stop.
Rowdy,
I donāt believe I was moving, however, i will attempt to reproduce the problem tonight and will report back.
Thanks
All very well, but my HRM doesnāt broadcast Ant+, and itās lousy through ZCA. So currently a simple choice, do I want a reliable HRM or Steering device, but canāt have both!!
