I do not use erg mode during workouts because I like to train without having someone hold my hand. I am doing a 3x15’ workout on incliner mode, and I cannot change gears using Zwift Play. When I do, it changes the target intensity.
Is Zwift trying to force us to use ERG mode? If they do, that’s really poor.
Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I’m looking at your server logs to troubleshoot, and I’m seeing a few things that are working against you.
The first thing that would help: remove the ANT+ dongle from your PC. Virtual Shifting works over Bluetooth only, so when your trainer’s resistance signal is bonded over ANT+ FE-C, your won’t be able to shift gears. Simplify your setup by unplugging the ANT dongle.
While you’re at it - you may want to do a manual calibration once the trainer has warmed up. You’ll want to calibrate at operating temperature.
Once those foundational things are sorted out:
I see you’re paired to the Favero pedals for power and cadence. We generally recommend you pair power, resistance, and cadence to your trainer’ not to a second power meter source. If you’re dual-recording power data, we recommend you pair the Assiomas to your GPS head unit, same as you’d do outdoors. You can continue spitting the data sources, but again - adding complications is working against you thus far.
Most people prefer to use ERG mode in a structured workout, but if that’s not your choice, you can absolutely turn ERG mode off. Do that either in the Action Bar of the main app, or in the Companion app. See this support article for details.
There is an option in the Wahoo app to control your Kickr with a power meter.
Doing so gets you the consistency that you want between trainer & outdoor rides.
Once you do this within the Wahoo app, you just pair your Kickr to Zwift.
It works great!
Thanks just did that. Never used it before because I was full ANT+ because of interferences causing dropouts on Bluetooth (I suspect the fans caused it).
Just moved to a full Bluetooth setup. Bought a new dongle and USB3.0 cable to minimise interferences.
Did everything you told me to do and moved to a full Bluetooth setup with a new dongle + cable to minimise risk of interferences (was my issue before). Now, it looks like I can change gears during a workout. Will give it a proper run sarvo.
