Hey Forum,
I’m using the Wahoo Kickr with a preinstalled Zwift Cog. I’ve been using it for about 5 rides now and all has been going well. Today during ride, the cog suddenly made a really loud clicking noise. I stopped the ride to inspect it and realized, that my pedals cannot freewheel anymore. The were doing it before though. I losened the axle to see if it’s that, but the cog won’t move freely as soon as I tighten the axle just a little bit. I’m concerned it is broken. Any tips, what to do?
Thanks so much for your reply.
Yes, I have installed one 142mm spacer on one side. Another one doesn’t fit. I’m riding the new canyon airoad with a thru axle. The Zwift cog was preinstalled on the kickr, since I bought everything directly from Zwift. It worked perfectly for the first few rides until the loud noise appeared. Now the cog is kind of stuck and only moves freely again, when I losen the thru axle. But that cannot be a solution for the problem.
Damn! But the provided spacers were of different lenght. Which one did you put on which side?
I tried but it didn’t fit somehow. The the instructions provided were so complicated and cumbersome. I guess I will have to losen the hub to see if its broken.
Thanks for the video Jürgen.
This is so weird. I bought the Wahoo Kickr including the Zwift Cog from Zwift a month ago.
The Zwift cog was preinstalled. I didn’t recieve any coloured cards with adapters though. The package included two spacers with different size, but they are only non drive side spacers. There were also spacers like int the topic postet by Paul, though the cog was already screwed one. Maybe I should have put another spacer on the other side.
Will talk to Zwift though. The instructions for this are horrible and not easy to understand.
Hey Paul,
super interesting topic. So what I understand is, that my kickr also already had adapter 1 from the picture installed. It looks exactly like this, but with the zwift cog.
I don´t think the cog is broken.
With the bike disassembled, can you move the sprocket freely in one direction? And in the other direction, can you turn over the flywheel of the trainer? If yes, I think everything is fine with the cog and the freehub body.
Back to the adapters, do you have the spacer labeled with #2 in the picture above?
When I loosen the axle I can move the the cog freely in the freewheeling direction, and in the other direction it would turn on the kickr. Though, as soon as I tighten the axle, it stops. So I guess I would need to use one of the adapters. On the no-wheel side I used the 142mm adapter. Though on the other side I didn’t use an adapter. Funny thing though is, that it used to work without before and all of a sudden in the middle of my ride 6th ride or so, the loud clicking noise appeared and I couldn’t freewheel anymore.
You need the 142 adapter on the non drive side (already installed as you said) and you need the left one in the second row. This adapter should slide over the nut on the drive side, the serrated side facing outwards.
Thanks @Jurgen_Grusdat!
It actually worked! Since I installed the other adapter it’s spinning again! No idea how this could have worked without for so long and what actually made it stop, but now I can tighten the axle again! I’m gonna give it a whirl tomorrow to test it! But already thanks so much, for helping me.
Also thanks to @Paul_Southworth for providing the other thread with the pictures so I understood what you guys are talking about!
