Zwift Climb Portal [2023]

Maybe that’s it. I was using companion app

I agree with Rich, average Watts including the ride to the portal is bonkers. It doesn’t include the time it takes to get to the portal, so why the Watts???

U-turns will turn off the timer.
It will not show in workout mode or race mode.

So far liking the climb portal. Not a big deal but I haven’t got credit for climbing some of the climbs after completing them. There are missing a few of the completed climbs.

Echoing your experience, chat didn’t work for me - stuff I typed wasn’t appearing - but I was also using the Companion App. (Android, if it makes any difference) Of note: nobody seemed to be typing anything during my climb so perhaps everyone was trying to use the Companion.

I just did one (Col D Aspin) and concentrated on who was passing me and how much time I I had left on my ETA. Seemed like my ETA kept gettting farther and farther out. I finally doubled the time of the jersey holder and it gave up and let me finish.

If you are accessing them via the challenge then only the first climb you do shows up as completed rather than subsequent climbs

Eta is based off your power output

Maybe this is why my Aspin effort didn’t have a clock running, ETA, or completion time?
I also didn’t get credited with a completion in the challenge (having already completed Cote de Pike last Friday).
I’m trying to keep loving Zwift, but this is typical glitchy stuff that really should be ironed out pre-release, isn’t it?

you said you didn’t see anything on the screen, people have posted screenshots at the top and half way up, are you saying you didn’t see anything like that? is it possible you had the hud turned off?

No, HUD was on! Just had the ‘normal’ data display, but didn’t get an ETA when near the top, nor a splash screen when I crossed the line.

did you go via the challenge area or via the portal on a free ride?

I had had both an ETA and a splash screen when I’d ridden Cote de Pike. Both climbs accessed through the Climbing Challenge.

Enjoying the frequent +250 xp on going through the section portals, tend to get 3 per ride.

Thinking which would be best climb to maximise XP gained, all climbs have 10 sections so must be one of the shorter ones, quickest one to ride, Cote de Pike maybe.

I got three just on one of the short climbs yesterday.

I think that makes four times I’ve got them since starting on Zwift. :joy: (OK, maybe I’ve had more than one before, but if I did I didn’t notice it.)

did the col des avaris last night, not a single feather, it was all 10xp

As far as XP to effort expended ratio, I find Cote de Trebiac is probably the easiest and quickest. It’s a bit longer than Pike, but not much so, and the gradients are far less intense.

Must remember to change my weight to ~25Kg and beat the pros up Col du Tourmalet tomorrow.

Haven’t used the climb portal, yet, but I’m planning to do so later today, and I’ve got a quick question. If I use the challenge to select a specific climb, will I be able to do a longer free ride on the normal Watopia roads before entering the portal? Or am I dumped into a route from which I cannot manually navigate?

Basically, I want to select a different climb than the one on today’s calendar, but I want to free ride for about an hour before I enter the portal. Obviously I could just end my free ride and then start a new activity for the portal, if needed, but I’m wondering if I’ll be able to do this as a single activity.
