Zwift Climb Portal [2023]

I rode Col d’Aspin yesterday morning (from France, FWIW) and I don’t think that the clock stopped when I reached the summit. I was kind of out of my tree by the time I got there, but I was pretty sure that my time was under 40 minutes, although Strava has me shown for 40:03. Looking back at my data on intervals.icu suggests that either the Strava segment starts some way before the Stargate portal, or that I didn’t ramp up my power for a few seconds after passing through the portal… :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

It would be really useful to have a clock running over the course of the whole segment, excluding the lead-in, for all these climbs.

I’m on Windows 10 PC, on a Tacx Neo 2T.

for my attempt of the col d’aspin yesterday, strava is showing my effort being 1s slower than what zwift says

Are we really complaining about a difference in segment time on a 3rd party platform for a segment that was created by another 3rd party?

No. I am ‘complaining’ that Zwift neither shows elapsed climb time (an egregious oversight), nor the finishing climb time (for at least the Aspin, an ‘undocumented feature’).

I was doubting the accuracy of the 3rd party platform for its ability to supply the information that Zwift should have been able to provide.

zwift shows the finishing climb time when you go through the finishing banner

That’s likely as Strava doesn’t make it possible to start segments with pinpoint accuracy.

well, it should, but it definitely didn’t for me.

I would be willing to bet that the sun will still come up tomorrow.
There are worse things that happen each and every day than a time not showing in a game.

not sure why yours didn’t show the finishing time as everyone I follow on strava that has done a climb from the portal seems to show their finishing time as they go through the banner as it takes a screenshot

any chance there’s a different handling of these if you do a climb from the free ride option, versus registering/doing a climb from the challenge option?

Odd. On my ride I had an elapsed time and an ETA throughout, and a completion splash at the end:

I love climbing and completed the full Alpe already more than 100 times. I use it for my workouts which are so much more enjoyable there.
Therefore I was very happy with the idea and introduction of the climb portal.
Yesterday I did my first ride and chose the Tourmalet. I would say it was good and interesting. But I highly doubt that I will go to the Portal each week.
For me I felt like being too much in a different universe. When I switched back to France after the descent it was so great to have the scenery again.

I think the current version is ok if you do shorter 20-30min climbs. But climbing for more than an hour in such a monotonous environment is not something I look foreward to regularly.

Anyway, I think it is a step in the right direction but please, please add some more scenery to get a more spatial feeling and a better sense for distance. Otherwise I will stick with the Alpe.

Why does every ride i do in climb portal have same title in zwift and strava even though all were different climbs. Also can only show two climbs as completed

Good morning
I have the climb on Watopia on the cleat  with a very good time :muscle: unfortunately not registered :unamused: :-1:
therefore obliged to do it again on Mont Saint Michel (with the toxins from the 1st climb) and there it was recorded. Can we know why ?

Otherwise it’s good for a good workout. After that lack of landscape but it’s not a problem we know that it will come later I think. (:

Started about ten minutes after the portals opened. Went via France.

To put it mildly I really wasn’t a fan of the Mario kart style of the climbs when I saw the previews, However…

Having done a few of the climbs, they are hard and the colours representing gradients actually help, so I am reluctantly changing my mind about the aesthetics.

Still a few niggles, you can ride off the side of the course which is a bit mad.

It would be helpful to have the courses mapped on ZC and not just ride aimlessly across the sea.

I would like like climbs, well all the key climbs on Zwift to be a feature on the leaderboards, have the option to see position within followers ala Strava would be nice.

Wait till zwift decides to choose some SoCal climbs close to HQ. Names that easy come to mind are GMR, Baldy, Hwy 39, onyx summit, Turnbull, etc. There are are insane steep or very long climbs in the region. Onyx is about 40 miles long from base. GMR and Baldy was in tour of California. Turnbull is popular canyon climb coming off the coastal flats in the hills. Paloverdes is real close the HQ. Then LA Olympics will have some to add. That is only start possible SoCal climbs that can be used for climb portal.

Chat does not seem to work when inside the portal. You can type but nothing comes up.

i know its been mentioned that the wattage shown when finishing the climb isn’t the actual climb wattage, it shows the leadin also, will this be changed for future versions so that only the climb watts show when you go through the finishing banner?

Chat worked for me on iOS via the Zwift app (ie I was not using the Companion app chat function). I only chatted once when I got past the finish line at the top and someone responded so I guess someone saw the message and I saw their reply.
