I installed the zwift cog and click shifters on my setup with wahoo kickr core trainer. Was prompted in zwift companion to update trainer firmware and did - to version 1.1. But virtual shifting wouldn’t work. The arrow keys would move my avatar around the screen - so I knew they were connected. But when I tried to shift I got the error that the firmware had to be updated. But when I checked it in ZC app it said it was updated. Round and around on forums and deleting and reinstalling apps on phone and apple tv and same problem.
Finally - I downloaded the Wahoo app and went through the setup of my trainer again on that app. It said there was a wahoo firmware update available - version 1.5, which I installed. And FINALLY, my zwift shifters are working! I wish somewhere in Zwift forums it would have recommended that, since so many people use wahoo. Oh well - hopefully this helps someone else!
You can update Wahoo trainer firmware with the Companion App? Otherwise I’m not understanding how, if you did a firmware update, you were able to, or chose to, select a firmware version that wasn’t the most recent?
That’s kinda what was confusing me. Within Zwift Companion (and on the tv screen) it would say - ‘you need to update the firmware on your trainer to use virtual shifting’ - then would ask if I wanted to update, and I would say yes. Then within ZC it said I was on the most up to date version - 1.1. But it still wasn’t working. I think the ZC app may be referring to the firmware of the click controllers maybe, even though it says ‘your trainer needs to be updated’. Not until I downloaded the Wahoo app and updated my actual wahoo firmware to 1.5.36 did it work. (and yes, ZC still says my firmware is 1.1 – so I think that’s referring to device firmware, not my actual trainer firmware). In any event, it works.
