World builder

Hi Mike, if you just use the gps track it will create a workout based on required effort to maintain a given effort level.

Hmm good to know thanks

Hi all,
I would like to see the ability to upload GPX/TCX files that can be loaded into Zwift in a “custom world” or Included under the country of origin world. Routes would be basic in layout in that you could only select ‘Town’, ‘Country’ or Desert style. Obviously would not be true to life but would offer the community the chance to share their favourite ride with the rest of the zwifters. Zwift would still have control and able to vet the routes before they are published.
Personally would like to ride some routes in countries like France, Spain and Italy.
Just a thought anyway

hi
is it possible to reride a trip from outside in zwiftworld
i mean cycling in zwiftworld with the watt from the ride outside

This might be what you want.

If you ride Bologna, the Alp, Richmond, Innsbruck or Yorkshire in real life, then Yes.

Good spot, David,. Seems to work straightforwardly. An added bonus would be if you could ride the ‘outside’ route in Zwift with on screen elevation profile AND a map … rather than just as a workout. This is available on other virtual cycling applications (such as Bkool?)… Also, one could then have group rides with friends on these (familiar) routes…
Problematicallly, perhaps, this might remove some riders from the main Zwift worlds and weaken mass attraction???

Everyone wants to share their local patch where they ride, so the pull is obvious.

It would mean a big change in the ZWift business model, changing from ZWift controlled to community led worlds means more than just developing the tools to allow people to do it - there are also licensing considerations, legal problems, quality control, moderation, and not least, a change in abilities within ZWift (moving from building worlds to building tools to build worlds is a big people problem).

It is not impossible, but is is a big job with potentially big rewards. Lego almost went broke before they allowed their user communities to thrive and set direction through hundreds of user groups, Apple of course led the way in their app store, and Nintendo, PS & XBox have been leveraging game developers for years.

But, you don’t have to go direct to community builders - cyclists are not necessarily adept at building worlds, and the tools to allow anyone to build them would be a massive undertaking. Most companies going through that transition leverage through skilled partners, providing guru-level tools to people who have the time, inclination, and skills do do a decent job of it without having to develop super sophisticated build tools.

It’s be a nice thing to do, having a variety of worlds to ride would be great, riding in places you used to live would be awesome, especially with friends that still live there (I wonder if you could liink up with Strava for a live feed ???).

Good luck, it’s a big change, but if you want to keep growing your business, then…

There are other cycling app competitors that allow you to either design your own or upload a gps file of an actual ride. So if you are interested, look at some of the other apps. I doubt zwift will go down this path.

This is an interesting area. Some of my friends have switched over to another platform so they can ‘ride’ their club routes especially during the current lockdown times we live in. Personally I am reluctant to change as I am addicted to Zwift and really enjoy what it offers.
If Zwift were able to offer a ‘My World’ or ‘My Routes’ that could be shared with friends/teams where basic routes could be made and ridden on perhaps that would be a good feature. My guess this would need to be a popular request before would be considered as it would require a lot of development time.

As stated, a competitor allows you to email in a .gpx file (100k limit) and within minutes its converted into a virtual world and added to your profile to ride (suggesting an automated process than a staffer having to do conversion).

All turns and gradient changes are replicated giving you a pretty good virtual ride on your favourite route.

Not sure how easy it would be for zwift to have a similar option, but it would be a cool addition to an already geat platform.

I don’t see how it would be realistic to build your own course (unless you want to ride in a course completely alone), but I would love the ability to create my own route (and save it for future rides).

Once you have a course you can set up a meetup for friend to ride with you.

I haven’t been using Zwift for very long, so I’m sure there is a lot of stuff I haven’t tried yet. However, I was wondering what is the view of other people and also the view of the development team at Zwift, with regards to a feature that would facilitate importing outside rides into the Zwift platform to be use indoors.
Regards to everyone and thank you in advance for your replies.

I am 100% against it. Zwift XP and other stats should be earned while using Zwift.

Thank you Paul for your view. I am not familiar with with Zwift XP.
Of course, I would say that different people would use Zwift for different reasons or purposes.
In my case I use it to train and keep a certain level of fitness, but I appreciate that other individuals would use it for other purposes.
Thank you once again for your view.

I think he does want to use Zwift, he just wants to be able to import outdoor routes to Zwift and then ride them in-game, as opposed to being limited by the different worlds Zwift offers.

Personally, I think the Zwift offerings are plenty and don’t see any need to import outdoor rides. I suppose my thoughts on this are twofold: First, if this were to happen I think it would end up like Rouvy or other apps that allow this, where you find yourself to be riding alone nearly all the time. I like that whenever I ride on Zwift there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other riders there at the same time. It not only creates a more social atmosphere, but a more competitive one, too. Second, I think the curation of all of the different routes people might upload would be tedious. And what sort of ‘scenery’ would you get? Surely the Zwift folks wouldn’t be doing all of the programming necessary to make uploaded routes as immersive as the Zwift worlds.

You would then upload your indoor (Zwift rides) and outdoor to a 3rd party site like Strava, Garmin or many others.

I import a few special rides I train for via the Workout tools. I have one particularly nasty mtb climb that challenges me so I have pulled the fit file from Strava and loaded it as a workout.

When training, it feels exactly like the real thing (without the odd rock on the track) but the scenery is whatever route I chose in Zwift. Probably a few sites out there that do this but my go to is Workout converters | What's on Zwift?

As a feature request - competitors do this successfully and I dont see any reason why Zwift couldnt as well. Personally, I’d rather Zwift focused on fixing broken stuff first but if I could put a couple of my outdoor training rides into this environment and “see” those routes, well then it ticks off another use case for me.

BTW, this is a very popular request so maybe use search and support any of the previous requests also.

This is actually an interesting question that I hadn’t thought of before - so thanks @Lenis_Losardo for asking. I am training indoors to be able to ride with my husband outdoors and would love to upload some of his routes to see how I do with them. Being able to upload some of his files as workouts would be really great. Also, he rode some beloved routes near his parents’ home in the Black Forest and might like to ride them virtually while stuck here in the flatlands of Houston. I’ll have to ask him and see whether we can figure this out. Thanks @Dean for the link and the description of what you do!
