Nigel, j think you have explained it better than I did on your first paragraph.
Thank you.
Paul, once again, thank you for your input.
I already use Strava, but more for keeping track of my stats and performance. In other words, to see if I am improving as an individual.
I have a Garmin Edge 1000, cycling computer, but I use Strava to see his I compare to other rides on certain sectors, etc.
However, if I could import certain outdoor rides, I could “practice” them on Zwift while the weather is very bad and I am unable to cycle on the roads.
I hope this makes clearer to you.
Dean, thank you very much.
I am tried to import them as a workout, that’s exactly what I would like to do, but I haven’t been able to do it.
But that’s the idea, to get a real ride/track and after you have ridden it Outdoors’s and recorded it on your Garmin device or on Strava, then you import it to Zwift. Even if the scenery didn’t match, it hopefully wouldn’t matter much.
Beth, yes I think it would be great.
People would be able to train for outdoor races, for time trials, etc.
I wanted to see other people’s view.
Clearly, different people have different views, but it is good to see the different perspectives.
Nobody had the right answer or the correct view. Horses for courses!
By the way Nigel, I am not a computer genius, but what I believe it takes is a file converter that would turn a GPX file into ZWO or ZMO (Zwift) file?
There are some website that do it, but then you have to pay their membership too.
Milan,
Thank you for your post. Unfortunately, the link you have provided for “What’s on Zwift”, subsequently recommends the “Best Bike Split” website, for which I have registered, thinking it would be free. However, unless you pay a subscription of around $19/month, you are not able to use it.
Hey @Lenis_Losardo - if you post up a link to a Strava activity that you want converted, I’ll try and convert it for you. It will take me about 24hrs as I’m just about to go out for the day.
No need for bestbikesplit - just drop your gpx file, set rider and bike, create. No problem on a PC, tested now.
Hi Dean
Thank you very much for your offer to convert the file.
Following Milan’s advice, I managed to create the workout, I will test it shortly to see if it works.
So if we combine the two, create a world from a GPX and social interaction in one, we should have a winner. You could e.g. create a world from a GPX from a real-world racecourse and have a group ride or a race on that route. I know at least one competitor has this functionality.
This feature would be awesome !!!
This would be great. I love this idea. Not sure why this would be so hard. I used to do this exact thing 20 years ago with my old CompuTrainer. I would ride a real ride with my Garmin and track my ride. Then upload the GPX file to a converter which turned it into a CompuTrainer course file. Then I could ride (or more importantly, TRAIN) on my favorite courses. So if I needed to ride Lookout Mountain here in Golden on a really snowy day, I could do it inside my house. I hope they can add this someday.
I love this idea. DO IT! I used to do this with my CompuTrainer 20 years ago. How hard could it be?
I fear even more difficult than eliminating the bugs we have to live with…
Edit - for GPX files:
I do remember that world and Simconnect, the proper way to connect to FSX, then the old way FSUIPC. Even met the dev team in Seattle. Also remember the software ESP that eventually became P3D, and the add ons - some very detailed and expensive ones.
Problem is how would this work for so many platforms, Mac, PC, phones, tablets, etc. Zwift is all very different. If you ride on a particular custom world, what about for others?
Hello!
I would request feature to be able to upload my own GPX file and ride that custom route. (I am shocked Zwift doesn’t support it yet while majority of the competitors offer such thing)
- I occasionally participate on duathlon and triathlon races, be able to prepare for the bike is a big adventage.
- Riding a custom route which we know with my club as event or with my friend during the winter is a great socializing thing.
- Re-riding roads I complete during the summer or just being able to ride any road basically from the world would be amazing. (it is technically possible, all the data and hardware is available, so why not?)
Thank you!
You can do this quite easily here: Convert GPX file to Zwift workout | What's on Zwift?
Hi,
I already saw there is the possibility to create a Workout of real-life GPX Bike Route recordings with Tools like Whatsonzwift.
But is there also somehow the possibility to do a Road-Simulation of the GPX recording? So I don’t re-ride the PowerZones from the GPX but just have the Elevation Data from the GPX and I can ride the Track in Simulation Mode? (Real-Life Route Training)
thx
Andy
