White Screen after Zwift Update on Windows 10 [January 2022]

That suggests there’s been an error in the patching of the latest game update, because the version in the Downloads folder should have been deleted by the patcher once your proper version was overwritten. This action shows in the launcher log file. Try a clean reinstall of the game.

the last couple of times for me, right clicking on the zwift icon on the task bar and closing it that way and reopening the app works for me.

for some reason closing the white window with the x in the top right corner doesn’t work and i get the white screen again when i try to reopen it.

That’s because the X doesn’t actually close zwiftlauncher.exe, it’s still running. It’s basically just like minimising the window.

Me too. Had this happened a bit some months back, then went away. Now it’s happening regularly. Either white screen of death, or the hyperlink which at least lets me get riding. If I truly close the app, then open again, probably takes 2-4 times and then it either works or I get the link. Honestly, I have to say in a mature fashion, WTAF? This isn’t some aesthetic bug or something. This literally results in users not being able to use the service. Zwift needs an all hands on deck session to just fix this for good. If I get a full fail and can’t ride at all, I’m either going to force them to credit my account, or simply contest that month’s charge on my credit card. The more of us that do it, the more likely they will actually fix it.

Hey there. It’s been almost 6 weeks since you posted this. You should really post some kind of update and keep them regular and frequent until this problem is fixed. Just imagine if you kept showing up at your gym during normal hours only to regularly find it closed. You’d likely demand a credit, refund, and/or look for another gym. Right?

Hey all, I thought I would post an update as I am the one who started this thread way back on January 13. I have been following along and trying everyone’s suggestions. I have also been in touch with Zwift support and tried everything suggested by them. Unfortunately for me, I can’t get past the white screen no matter how many times I restart or refresh or clean reinstall the program. It’s been incredibly frustrating as my laptop although a few years old still meets all the minimum requirements for Zwift to run. I’ve had to give up. I tried running Zwift on my phone, but the experience was pretty awful, so I ended up having to cancel my Zwift subscription. I am now running a competitor’s software which works fine (I am actually enjoying the change of senery). I miss the Zwift worlds and all the other members of the zwift community, but at this point I’m not about to sink more $$$ into new hardware to get it to run.

Wow! Opening Zwift, closing ZwiftLaucher in Task Manager, and then reopening Zwift worked for me. Thanks for the tip!

Any update on this @shooj ? Hearing more and more reports of this….

So far for me closing the launcher (Not just the window but the whole launcher from task bar) then restarting Zwift has worked.

It seems @shooj has left the building. This is really leaving me with a bad taste. I’ve loved Zwift since I signed up in 2018, but I can’t abide this kind of borderline malfeasance. Such a simple thing: keeping your effected users updated and letting them know that they are not forgotten. So if they can drop the ball on something so simple, what else will they drop the ball on? Time to hedge my bets and explore the other offerings out there.

I think the problem is that if you close it and reload it a few times it usually works or failing that a reboot should do it so it is probably low priority to fix it.

Not defending not fixing it btw

It’s almost certainly not a hardware issue, so upgrading your laptop wouldn’t have fixed it. After all I’m running Zwift on a cutting edge gaming PC and I also get this white screen problem (not every time I launch it, but at least 50% of the time), so if it can happen on a high-end machine, then it can happen anywhere. My only solution has been to End Task the ZwiftLauncher program in Task Manager then run it again and that usually works.

Just kill it from the system tray, it’s quicker.

Has been a a problem for about 3 weeks now. Click the launcher, and the login window comes up as white box, with no info or buttons.
All my drivers are upto date, and have the latest version of zwift, as the only way I can get zwift to run, is to do a fresh install. While this works, it is a right pain to do every time. Have done 4 installs over the last 3 weeks.
Is there a fix or a bug patch I need to fix this issue

Search the forum this is a Known bug.

Close the launcher from the taskbar or taskmanager.

I’ve got the white launcher screen after the last two updates. This fixes it for me on Windows 10. Resetting the Zwift Launcher

I had a different version of this the other day.

the window was completely blank but the buttons loaded correctly - obviously no real issue as it all worked as it should but first time i’d seen that.

That page is redundant, the launcher doesn’t use Internet Explorer any more and hasn’t for months. It doesn’t use Edge either by the way.

The ‘fix’ is to close the launcher via the system tray and restart the game. Takes seconds.

no - i have had that before.

the background was white but everything else loaded correctly.

That didn’t work for me. Clearing data from Internet Explorer did. Maybe my Zwift launcher is somehow out of date and not getting updated :man_shrugging:.
