What is this blip on the map?

What is this, and how do I earn it?

I saw that on my last Alpe ride too but was too busy dying to care

It’s you on your way up, 28 seconds into the segment I believe.

There are power-ups that can be won during the ascent of the Alpe, at three set points. You only get the chance to win them if you’ve done two prior ascents of the Alpe in the last 30 days (at least that’s how it used to work; it might have changed).

Based on your best times to the set points up the Alpe, Zwift gives you a ‘carrot’ to chase, with a countdown to help you see how long you have left to get to those points. In your case above, you’d get the van power-up if you got to the target point in less than 28 seconds.
Check out the meandering discussion below, for some more details and illustrations:

It counts down with a scrolling power-up. I randomly get the power-up from them.

That’s a new one for me.

OH… wow… I never knew that was how it worked! Good info. I always thought the timer was your ETA to the next power-up, and didn’t understand why I wouldn’t get them sometimes. Figured it was just a bug.

Any idea how to decipher the segment PR line graphs?

I never really tried to get my head around those. Plus, I’m such an erratic and indisciplined rider, my results are pretty much indecipherable spaghetti.
It always struck me as a pity that when a ride was over that we can’t see the segment results in Zwift. (Maybe in Strava or other third party apps, but I don’t use any.)
