Wahoo KICKR2 Core with Zwift cog and click

Hello! I just bought a Wahoo KICKR2 Core trainer with the Zwift Cog and click. I have it all set up and everything is paired to the Zwift app. I was able to do a welcome ride to understand how the features with the virtual shifting work and it worked while I rode the 18 minute welcome ride. After that was done, I chose another and even though everything was still paired, it stopped working. The resistance is super easy and the shifting will not work. When I start to pedal, the app doesn’t even detect that I’m riding. Anyone have this problem and have any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Do you have an active subscription?

So when you say, “a full app restart,” do you mean delete the app and then redownload it?

I googled what you meant by power cycling the KICKR and it says to unplug the trainer for 30-35 seconds to reset its control chip and they can help resolve the connection issues. Is that what you mean by power cycling?

I am within the 14-day free trial. I just got the trainer so I signed up for Zwift and you get a 14-day free trial before you’re charged.

If you see zero Watts on the HUD, that is not a subscription problem. If you see Watts on the HUD but don’t move, that could be a subscription problem (or brakes stuck on but there are no brakes on the Click controls so that’s not your problem).

Have you already checked for trainer firmware updates in the Wahoo app, and Click controller firmware updates in the Companion app Equipment menu?

What are you running the game on? Bluetooth interruptions could cause the trainer to disconnect.

I have a brand new phone and don’t have Bluetooth issues. I wish I could use my Mac while riding or use screen mirroring on my TV instead of my phone but from what I’ve read, neither are an option??

The firmware on all of my apps is up to date Wahoo, Zwift, and Zwift Companion but I did just check the updates for the Zwift click and it needed an update so I did that but it still doesn’t seem to be working. When I get on the bike, it is still in a super easy gear and when I start to ride the app doesn’t detect me moving.

whats stopping you from using your Mac?

Hi @Kim_St_Mane

Thanks for sharing the details. This is Haziel from Zwift Support. I understand that everything pairs fine, but then stops working mid-session. I will share a few things you can try that often help with KICKR Core + Zwift Cog/Click issues:

  • First, can you confirm if the same problem happens when you test the trainer in the Wahoo Fitness app? That will help rule out whether it’s a Zwift-specific issue or something with the trainer itself.

  • Make sure you’ve rebooted all devices involved (trainer, phone/computer, Zwift Click); sometimes a fresh restart clears up pairing glitches.

  • If possible, try Zwift on a different device (computer, tablet) to see if the issue repeats. That can narrow down whether it’s device-specific.

  • Finally, if you’re pairing directly to Zwift now, you might want to try using the Zwift Companion App as a Bluetooth bridge. Many users find this method more stable, especially when multiple Bluetooth devices are nearby.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help!

@Haziel_P you may have missed it, but Kim is using her phone to run Zwift, so she can’t use the companion to pair.

It guess I tried and it didn’t seem to work. I can’t download the app in there (at least it didn’t seem to be available), so then what…I log onto Zwift from a browser and that will work? I’ll try. That will be much better if it can work!

no, you have to use the game app, but you should be able to download it from Download Zwift on iOS, MAC, PC, or Android Devices | Zwift on the Mac, I would think. Can you post the specs of your mac, what model it is, etc…

Macs work great for Zwift assuming they’re not too old.

Regarding the firmware, I am not talking about the versions of the apps on your phone. The firmware is the code that runs on the trainer itself, and on the Zwift Click controls. The Wahoo app will let you connect to the trainer, and check if the trainer is up to date. The Companion app has an Equipment menu that will let you connect to the Click controls and check if they are up to date. Make sure that has happened for both devices. From your answer I was unsure if you have done that.

It’s all paired and I got it working now, yay!

But, now I want to try to use my computer instead of my phone. So that means I will have to pair it to my computer too, right?

Yes you will need to pair things to your Mac if you want to use it. if you are going to use the computer for Zwift, I would suggest you delete the app from your phone to not risk having things paired to the phone and interupting the pairing to the computer. Choose one device to run the game, and don’t have Zwift installed on both devices. If it works on the Mac, then you can use the phone for the companion app (not the same thing as the main Zwift game app)

@mike_rowe1 - I have a 2020 MacBook Pro with Sequoia 15.5 installed on it.

@Paul_Southworth that should work just fine right?

Hi Hazel,
Thank you for reaching out. I got it working now. It is all paired with my phone but now I want to figure out how to pair it with MacBook Pro. That’s possible, correct?

Thanks for your help!!

Hi Paul,
All firmware is up to date with the trainer and everything. The trainer is working now with the virtual shifting. I just now need to figure out how to pair it with my Mac instead of my phone. Didn’t try that initially when I was setting it up.

assuming it has built-in bluetooth, it should work.

Yes it should be fine. That was the year when they shipped MacBook Pro models with either the M1 CPU or an Intel CPU. Both are supported by Zwift though the M1 works a lot better / faster.
