Kickr Core 2 Issues

Hey Zwift Community,

yesterday, I received my new Kickr Core 2 with Zwift Frame and unfortunately encountered several issues right from the start.

First, I was unable to update the firmware (version 3.3.15) using the Wahoo app on my Android tablet. The tablet remained unresponsive throughout the process, even after waiting over 20 minutes. The trainer appeared to reboot during the attempt, and the lower LED is now green again, but the update did not complete.

I then tried the same process on my Android phone, but experienced identical results — the firmware simply won’t update.

Moving on, I attempted to use the trainer in Zwift despite the update issues. However, I immediately noticed extremely high resistance from the start. My avatar would not move at all unless I applied an enormous amount of force to the pedals.

After researching possible solutions, I attempted a spindown calibration via the Wahoo app. Unfortunately, this also failed — the warm-up phase had the same extreme resistance. I managed to push through the full 3 minutes, but the app indicated the spindown was unsuccessful. I repeated the process, exerting even more effort, but encountered the same result.

At this point, I am dealing with three distinct issues:

  1. Firmware will not update (on either device).

  2. Unreasonably high resistance in Zwift.

  3. Spindown calibration consistently fails.

It seems there may be a fundamental problem with the unit right out of the box. I’ve followed all relevant troubleshooting steps outlined on Wahoo website, but none have resolved the issues.

Looking forward to your input… im rack my head around here.

I bet if you borrow an iPhone or iPad you won’t run into the firmware update problems.

Can’t the Zwift companion app update the trainer firmware now too, I think I read that somewhere with the new Core 2? Or I’m totally making it up?

I don’t know about that, but what I do know is that both Companion (eg, for Zwift Play/Click/Ride controls) and the Wahoo app have more problems installing firmware updates on Android devices. Anyone faced with that should beg, borrow, or steal an iPhone and try again so they can get to riding.

hmmm, I’ve never run into issues updating firmware with Zwift controllers, or Wahoo trainers/bike computers using my Android phone. :man_shrugging:

I looked through all all the app…

I can find my device there, but it only gives me some Details about it, like Wi Fi connection or Firmware number.

I was thinking if the Kickr Core 2 is in Wi Fi, it is going to update itself during nighttime, but it didnt.

Here’s an example. I have no idea if the Core V2 falls under the same advice since it’s too new, but this type of problem is quite common, and not just with Samsung phones.

thanks for that, my stuff is too old to be effected, haven’t had a trainer firmware update since 2021.

Core 2 is auto calibration, and update. It also won’t update unless you have the latest release of the Wahoo app.

The Wahoo App is on the newest Firmware on both devices.

I received the Kickr Core 2 on Wednesday and set it up yesterday…i had no problem updating the firmware with my android phone…did the app ask you to do a power cycle reboot before updating?

There is also an option in Zwift Companion App in sensors for Zwift Ready equipment.

does this update the trainer firmware?

I’m not really sure cause i updated with Wahoo app…but as i was updating Zwift Ride i noticed that option and it said on latest firmware when i opened.

So i think it’s an option for update.

Here is also my TEST with Dual Recording…out of the box with no additional calibration on trainer.

Hi @Tobias_St welcome to Zwift forums and Zwift more generally.

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. Not being able to update the firmware using Wahoo’s app is a very unusual issue. Please reach out to my Support Team colleagues so an agent with KICKR expertise can assist.

We don’t handle matters on this public forum that require knowing your personal information (i.e. Zwift Shop and subscriptions) to protect your privacy. Let’s send you to my colleagues who can help get this solved and loop in Wahoo’s technicians if required.

So my issue is with the WIFI…i connected everything on my 1st attempt and it worked in Zwift for an hour. After that all of a sudden i couldn’t change gears…the only way i could get it working again was to use Bluetooth.
Yesterday i tried again WIFI connection and i had 0W and 0rpm and i couldn’t get it working…so i had to use BT again.
@shooj do you know has someone else had similar issue? My WIFI is in the same room 3 meters away from the trainer.

I tried Factory Spindown and it also failed for me multiple times. I guess it’s not an option on Core 2 or the App is not updated for Core 2 Spindown. There is also no option in Zwift as it is Autocalibrated.

I am experiencing the exact same issues with my new KICKR CORE 2. I just raised a ticket with Wahoo.

Yeah me too.

I will post again here when i have an answer from Wahoo support.

There seem to be some unanswered questions about the new Core 2.
