Wahoo Kicker connected via Bluetooth, but no Power and No Movement of rider

My V5 Wahoo Kickr is dead. No power. Using the wahoo app it connects, it can manually create resistance, shows speed, no power data, will not manually provide power either.

Wahoo said, it’s dead. They will replace it if I have all the documentation! But, I don’t have original receipt, bought in cash from a small shop for a really good deal. They can’t provide a receipt for me. So I think wahoo is going to give me a discount.

Has anyone had any success removing the flywheel and cleaning the reflector strips and optical sensor

Same issue.
I removed the flywheel.
Cleaned the reflective tape and the sensor .
The unit is working again

I had the issue with my Wahoo Kickr Core which worked for 5 years back in February or March, got a replacement (or a discount on a Kickr V5 to be more specific). Tried to use the Kickr for the first time today and it is not working with the same issue. That can’t be true, right? It’s a completely new/refurbished and never used device, there is no way it’s not working out of the box with the same issue.

Is there any fix for this?

Hi all,

Just wanted to thank this forum. Last week (Tuesday) I discovered I hade the same issue as most of you; mailed Wahoo and received my replacement trainer today. 4/12 my trainer got picked up, 6/12 I already received a replacement.

Good luck y’all!

on my 3rd kickr because of this problem. all warrantied, which is great, but all took week or more to deal with or even get responses from wahoo.

this 3rd kickr now exhibiting same issue.

I just dont get how they are sending out replacement after replacement after replacement and dont have a long-term fix for this by now.

the factory spindown 3-min warm-up while knowing the speed will never leave 0 is the angriest 3 mins of my life.

Hello all,
thank you for all your comments here.
I just had this issue this morning with my Kickr Smart Trainer. I did all the tricks suggested here and in other chats. In addition, I conducted the all the actions from the Wahoo official site - didn’t help unfortunately. I just wrote Wahoo customer support - let’s see the reply.
I am really surprised how many of us is suffering from the same failure.
By the way, when uninstalling and re-installing my Zwift app my wife received the current update to her app simultaneously. After the re-installation I still had the older app version ??

The phased rollout of Zwift updates puts it to random machines each day of the rollout. So it’s common for one device to get the update while another device in the same house waits for another day.

Add another person to this. Also bought in 2020, disconnected for 30 or so minutes, removed, readded several times. It connects, but nothing shows for cadence, power, nothing. Thought it was everything BUT the kickr. I put in a ticket with wahoo, so far crickets…

Jan 2025 and I am now joining this massive group of people having the same issue with the Kickr V5. In warranty or not, Wahoo has a major design/engineering flaw here. Just opened my case with Wahoo.

Connection and pairing of all sensors but zero activity response for any peddling ! Have spent hours deleting, installing various Apps with no luck. Wahoo support have now directed me to buy another kicker ! Purchased in ‘22 and only used during winter periods, so minimal use.
Clearly a Bluetooth issue and they won’t even let me buy spare part(s) to fix the issue myself. As has been stated - a design issue. Very poor, expensive service suffered by so many. Wahoo ? Sort this out please.

This isn’t something that can be sorted out on the Zwift forum, but since you appear to be in the UK, you should know about this service…

I would like to give an update, I now have new kickr v6. The customer support was pretty good, at first the had me do the typical check the firmware, plug/unplug, update this and that. They sent me a refurbished kickr core, I kindly said this isn’t quite the same. So I ended up with the new kickr. Overall happy with the experience. They send shipping labels so nothing came out of pocket.

I’m now having the same issue. I bought mine August 2023. I’ve emailed Wahoo, waiting for a response. Hoping they now know how to fix it. Makes training when I’m time poor, very hard!

Mine just came down with this flu as well. Customer support was great; I purchased mine in 2022 and have a refurbished replacement on the way.

Hi, I know this forum is old but I figured I’d respond for the people who find this forum and don’t find what they’re looking for. We had this issue and figured out what it was. Like you say, the KICKR was working fine until it just stopped recording watts. What I figured out is there is a little piece of photosensor tape on the inside of the flywheel. It literally just looks like a small white patch of plastic on the inside of the flywheel (the spinning component of the back). It’s was stuck to the flywheel literally just with adhesive. It spins past a photosensor which registers the tape and records the rate at which the wheel spins. In our case, the adhesive failed and the photosensor tape just flew off. The photosensor couldn’t “see” the tape, and therefore couldn’t sense the rate at which the flywheel was spinning – hence no watts and a stationary avatar on Zwift – it effectively thinks the wheel is not spinning. In our case, the tape flew off on the floor and we didn’t think anything of it and it got swept up and thrown away later. So look around the KICKR for a small piece of rectangular white plastic. If you find it see if it still has good adhesive on the back. If it does, take out the three screws that hold the flywheel component together and wipe down the flywheel with alcohol to get a good stick. If it doesn’t consider adding additional adhesive like double sided tape. If the white plastic is lost, get in touch with Wahoo. If you have the purchase info and receipt they should send you a replacement piece of tape. In our case, problem solved.

Hey Everyone, I had the same issue recently and got this response from WAHOO Support. I’m using the Kickr Snap…

I experienced this problem today, not transmitting speed.

Hey everyone, I have the same issue with my Kickr V5. Been talking with wahoo support and after finding this thread and sending them the photos of the people here they are sending me a replacement! I bought mine in 2020 directly from them. hope this helps

Another update that may help those out of warranty or who are having issues. I’m on my third Kickr core since Nov 2021, all warranty replacements the last in 2023.

My bearings have recently gone so I contacted support with a video and they offered a no quibble direct replacement which suprised me.

However as others have reported they wanted me to cut the cable, provide a pic and also a pic of the serial number and asked me to dispose of it.

That aside I took the old one apart, bought some bearings for 80 pence each, replaced those which fixed that issue. On replacing the crank I started having connectivity issues as per thread - no speed, power etc. Also couldn’t do a spindown in the wahoo app.

Further up the thread you’ll see someone cleaned the sensor and the black / white central markings inside the hub after removing the crank. This didn’t work too well until I placed reflective aluminium tape over the white markings - all now good and runs like new.

I’m keeping this as a spare as I can’t see them constantly giving out replacements forever. Incidentally the dates on the internal components were 2017, this was issued as a warranty replacement in 2023 so make of that what you will.
