Anyone experiencing repeated crashing issues since 1.78 released? I’ve lost 3 rides since 1.78 was released. I don’t know if it as simple as waiting for the next software update or panic buying a new laptop.
Do you have an AMD Ryzen chip?
My 3 crashes have happened at approx 40th, 80th and yesterday 120th minute. Zwift does a “backup save” every 10 minute I think so you never totally lose a ride which is a good back up feature, but then it’s doesn’t sync to Zwift. And my OCD doesn’t deal with that well….
I’m 95% sure it will be a glitch with 1.78, I’m technically useless to start going all laptop talk and have no idea what I am talking about.
Glitches happen. I would be more than content if I was inform there was an issue with 1.78 and an update soon would end the issue. It sounds 1.78 related and not my laptop…….
Zwift: just a simple honest response is all I ask for so I don’t panic buy a laptop……
Have you tried disabling the video screenshot thing?
None of the crashes has happened at a segment where a screenshot may of happened. I may disabled it short term though to see what happens till next update.
I think the video screenshot happens at a certain time too even if nothing noteworthy happened.
isn’t it technically always recording? you can hit the video screenshot button at anytime and it records the previous 15 seconds.
If that’s how it works, probably. Depends on what jams up your system - if it’s constantly keeping that 15sec of video in RAM then writes a file if you hit the button/timer goes off/key event happens, there’s still the write to file thing that’s going to take different resources.
I don’t really know much about that function, I wasn’t interested and turned video screenshots off as soon as it was introduced.
Might have a point, it always records last 15s, not next 15s…
Well most hardware failures cause lots of things to crash, including the OS. You’d generally expect blue screens of death. So if by crash you mean the laptop reboots maybe it’s hardware.
If by crash you mean that zwift is just exiting mid ride and you’re left just staring at the windows desktop, then although that doesn’t entirely preclude a hardware issue I’d suggest it’s more likely to be a software thing.
Note that windows updates as well as zwift so it could be either update that has broken something.
At one point when computers did blue screen (rather than just rebooting) and crashes did bring up a dialogue box (rather than just closing) it was easier to notice and see what the blue screen said or the 0xc000005 or whatever on the crash. Bill decided to try and hide instability. So you have to dig around in the windows event viewer to find the reports. Maybe the logs in zwift’s folder would give a clue as to what is causing the crashes too.
I don’t think you’re at the stage where buying another laptop makes sense yet though.
There is more than one way to crash the game. Some are Zwift bugs, some are not. Some have solutions, some don’t. It’s not possible to guess what is going on with your laptop unless you share details about what it is. If you want suggestions for things to try, post a DXDIAG screenshot.
