I am thinking about getting Zwift Cog + Click Upgrade Kit. What advantage will it give me?
Is it easy to fit ? must I use the clicker to gear select does it work with Zwift play hand set ? Is there a special bundle ?
Hi @Jay_Barry, Welcome to Forums. This is Juan from Zwift.
Thank you for your interest in the Upgrade Kit. The kit enables virtual shifting through electronic adjustments to the flywheel resistance. Using the Zwift Cog, which acts as a universal cassette, simplifies setup and reduces wear on physical components. This can extend the lifespan of your rear cassette and shifting parts, especially beneficial if you plan to ride outdoors.
They are easy to install. Check out these articles.
Last but not least, Zwift Play and Zwift Click can both be paired simultaneously. Zwift Play can be used for navigating menus and controlling the game, while Zwift Click handles gear shifting.
Currently, Zwift Play and the Upgrade Kit are sold separately to offer greater flexibility. If you have any other questions, please feel free to write us to support@zwift.com for one-on-one assistance.
Hi @Jay_Barry
Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I looked at your server logs and see you have a Zwift Hub trainer with the latest firmware v5.2.2. The firmware version is important as that’s where the magic happens to enable virtual shifting.
I also happen to have a Zwift Hub and own two road bikes: one is 11 speed and other 12 speed. The Zwift Cog’s benefit to me is that I don’t have to change the cassette on the trainer if I want to switch bikes. If you have multiple bikes in the house - this will also benefit you.
If you only have one bike to worry about - you don’t absolutely need a Zwift cog per se. You can leave your multi-gear cassette on your Zwift Hub trainer and still use virtual shifting as long as you get a Zwift Click shifter a la carte, OR a set of Play controllers. I happen to have both, and you can use them together, but it’s overkill unless you have a tri bike. For tri bikes - putting the Click at the end of your aero extensions is wonderful, and you should get both.
The Play controllers are really nice because they let you navigate the game menus without having a keyboard for your PC nearby.
If you get one or the other shift controller - make sure you update the firmware on those devices first before pairing them to Zwift.
If only wahoo hadn’t dumped development of the virtual shift firmware for older but equally/higher spec’d kickr’s!
I bought plays and was ready to convert to a cog set up for the ease of bike swapping.
thanks for the info cog set has been ordered … I will wait to see if ‘Play’ is reduced in the next month or two.
