Elite Suito-T with Zwift Cog – Opinions on Virtual Shifting?

Hey everyone, my question is for users of the setup mentioned above. I’m about to purchase the Zwift Cog (Elite version) and would love to hear your feedback. Some reviews I’ve seen are mixed, so I’d really appreciate your input.

Hey Andrew, I’ve tried the Zwift Cog with all of ELITE’s trainers and to be honest, it isn’t amazing. There is a slight delay in shifts and a pretty significant bias toward the higher gears (gears 16-24). Unless you need to be switching bikes often, I’d stick to the cassette on the Suito and purchase the Play controllers so that you can use virtual shifting without being restricted to it.

I don’t need to change bikes often, but I wanted a quieter setup. I don’t race — I mostly do group rides and some workouts in ERG mode. Do you think I’ll suffer any drawbacks from changing this accessory?

I don’t find the Cog that much quieter than a standard cassette (lubed), but it definitely saves you the noise from gear shifts. You could do the Cog and Click but I just wouldn’t expect an extraordinary shifting experience. Some are bothered by it, but a lot of others don’t really mind, especially if they haven’t tried other virtual shifting set ups.

Drawbacks would mainly be losing the realism of real shifts and the risk of a virtual shifting experience that isn’t amazing.

What would be the other virtual shifting set-up? I’m curious

Wahoo, Jetblack, and GARMIN all have pretty good implementations

Well I don’t have this kind of power

Haha yeah, I think it is worth giving the Zwift Cog and Click a go. If you find it isn’t working well, you can always just use the click with a cassette.

I got the play controllers this week so got to try virtual shifting on my Elite Avanti, and it’s no god at all :face_with_peeking_eye: I have no idea how this got released. Shifting overshoots a lot before it settles into the new gear, so it’s more or less impossible to use virtual shifting while racing. If I ride at 200 watt and shift 1 harder gear, the resistance gets so high I’m at more than 300 watts before it settles back at 230-240 watts. This takes a couple of seconds and it feels like ERG spiral of death.

Shifting to an easier gear also overshoots massively (gets way to easy) before it settles inn again.

Are you going back to a cassette?

Interesting. I didn’t notice this behavior, in fact, mine was like the opposite. Shifting made hardly any difference until I got to the higher geard

Did you ride in the big ring? I belive the shifts will feel smaller when the flywheel is spinning faster.

I haven’t removed the cassette yet. I have to try some more, but I suspect I’ll keep the cassette and use virtual shifting for Robopacers (and maybe social rides) in zone 1-3 and normal shifting for racing.

Seems like a good set up. I might do the same
