so the play controllers are being retired after just over 2 years of being released?
Zwift announces a new Zwift Click that fuses the small form factor of the original Click virtual shift controllers with the in-game menu navigation and avatar steering capabilities of the Zwift Play controllers.
The new controllers add versatility by mounting to many types of handlebars: drop-style bars, flat bars, aero bars, and others.
- Powered with common CR2032 batteries.
- Pair to Zwift over Bluetooth. Virtual shifting is not supported over ANT+
Zwift Click will be bundled with an updated Zwift Cog v2 that’s easier to select from the Zwift Shop and install on your trainer.
Starting September 9, Zwift Cog v2 upgrade kits sold in the Zwift Shop will come pre-installed on a trainer-specific freehub body. Just select the brand and model of your supported smart trainer.
Special bike tools (i.e. a chain whip and lockring tool) are no longer required to install Zwift Cog v2 on a supported trainer. Simply remove the drive-side axle adapter with the included Zwift multi tool, and swap with the cassette.[image]
- Instructions for Elite and Garmin Tacx trainers
- Instructions for Wahoo, Jet Black, Van Rysel or Zwift Hub trainers.
The new Zwift Click and Cog upgrade kit sell for £49.99 / €49.99 / USD$49.99
During installation:
- Verify that your Zwift Click is on the latest firmware version using Zwift Companion. Instructions here.
- Verify your trainer is also on the latest firmware version. Use the manufacturer’s app and instructions.
Excellent news…
Are the play’s obsolete now?
No just replaced with the new gizmo in the store
so the play controllers are being retired after just over 2 years of being released?
yep looks like it.
New roads will be nice the rest is a bit meh. some post ride report updates but nothing i’m too excited for by the look of it.
explains why they were giving them away on certain levels if they were retiring them, feels like a slap in the face for those of us that got them on release due to buying zwifts marketing bs (yeah thats on us for falling for it) saying about using braking and steering as its going to be a big part of zwift, then we find out cant use them in zwifts own premier race series…
These supersede Zwift Play and the original Zwift Click controllers in the Zwift Shop. If you’re using either of those happily - they’ll continue to serve you well into the future.
What will we receive now if we make level 85 ?
Quick question, I see that as part of the purchasing process you select the trainer you are purchasing the cog for, I assume this is for the cassette body to match. There is an option for a neo 2 and neo 2T, what about the neo 2SE? Is that the same at the 2T as it shares the same axle?
Thanks.
I asked earlier, and it was suggested that if a trainer isn’t listed, it probably doesn’t support virtual shifting, so the Click and Cog would not do any good.
Any option of purchasing only the click? Particularly if you have have a trainer that doesn’t support virtual shifting. Or if you already have a click and cog and are wanting to upgrade. You were giving away the play controllers on the basis that everyone gets a benefit from the rest of the buttons.
And will these be distributed worldwide or limited to US/UK/EU?
Do these take 1 or 2 Bluetooth connections?
I’ve read somewhere that the buttons will be programmable, is this true? Will it also be possible on the Play?
Ohh, tiny screws battery cover. The killer of Garmin HRM-Dual sensors. This is a big FAIL. Screw them in just a bit too tight (happens quickly) and the plastic that holds the screws will eventually break. Who thought this was a good idea and who approved it?!
From the YouTube videos - it looks like they’re bridged so one bluetooth connection covers both of them
I would buy new Zwift Click in addition to the Zwift Play controllers if…–> there was an option to fully configure the additional Zwift Click buttons for different types of additional shortcuts.
I similarly was wondering if you can opt to just use one of the two clicks and leave the other one turned off.
Other questions –
Can you use these AND also use another device you may already have for steering such as a Sterzo or Rizer?
I assume it’s been tested and you’d get used to it, but from appearance it looks a bit tricky distinguishing without looking between a shifting button (+/-) and the Y/B buttons?
Any higher ratings for these than the original for sweat/waterproof protection?
I thought this might have been an answer to two issues/scenarios I have. The first is one Play controller dying which looks like it will not get a warranty replacement now. The second is a potential 12s upgrade to one bike that would have allowed me to continue to use both that and the other 11s bike on the trainer courtesy of the cog. Then I remembered it would need shifting support and I’m using a v5 Kickr, so that’s out.
How do you steer with these? I can’t see steering buttons here or on the website.
