I run with Zwift Play. Without the controllers my bikes follow the pack for tail lights when the light fades. But with Zwift Play I always have a tail light, even in broad daylight in a 60-70+ robopacer pack, where I am the ONLY one with a tail light, but not the only one running Zwift Play. Very annoying. How can I get rid of the tail light? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like you might be braking.
Thanks mate, but I don’t think so. If I brake (almost never) the lights go brighter. It would be great if there was an option in some settings somewhere - Zwift, Zwift Companion or Zwift Play - about tail and brake lights but I haven’t been able to find it if it exists.
Hi @_Open_Road, welcome to the forums!
I’m Fernanda, from Zwift.
I couldn’t miss the chance to give you a hand on this! It caught my attention that you are the only one having this tail light behavior during your rides and that is associated with the use of the Zwift Plays, so I took a moment to review your last logs, and I can see in your last activity that the firmware of the Zwift Plays on August 21st is under version 1.0.0.
Could you please update the firmware to version 1.3.1, so we can discard this as the cause of your issue? You can follow the steps here for updating the Zwift Play firmware.
Let us know if that works for you!
Thank you Fernanda for responding. I am on IOS. Followed all the steps in the link you sent including trying to update Zwift Play from Zwift Companion on my iPhone. Unfortunately when I go into the Zwift Hardware under the More menu I immediately encounter the Bluetooth Access Denied screen. I have double checked that the Zwift app is off, Zwift Play controllers are on and flashing blue and that my iPhone is right there. No joy. So I guess there is another problem: how do I escape the Bluetooth Access Denied screen?
Many thanks.
You likely need to give the companion app permission to use bluetooth or “location” in the iphone settings.
Hi @_Open_Road, thank you for the update!
I appreciate that you followed the steps for updating the firmware, let me help you face this bluethoot permission issue on your iPad! Please follow these steps to allow the Zwift Companion App for bluethoot permissions:
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Security.
- Tap Bluetooth.
- Allow bluethoot permissions for the Zwift Companion App.
Once you do this the Bluetooth Access Denied screen should be resolved!
Keep me posted.
Hmmm … I don’t have a Privacy & Security option, just Privacy, and there is no Bluetooth option, just options re: follow requests, private messaging, age display and who can see my activity.
Hi @_Open_Road, thanks for your effort!
Don’t worry we can sort this out! Based on your description you are looking into the Zwift Companion settings. I apologize, the steps I shared need to be completed on your iPad general settings, outside any applications, locating the privacy and security option as in the picture below:
There you will find the bluethoot to allow bluethoot permissions to any of your applications.
Let us know how it goes for you.
Okay, that worked. Firmware is now updated to 1.31 for Zwift Play and I rebooted both my iPad and the controllers. Unfortunately I still have a tail light. Any suggestions?
Hey folks, just to be clear, the tail light problem is still with me. Updating the Zwift Play software did nothing. Thanks for your help.
Okay, so it’s been awhile since I’ve heard from anyone at Zwift about this tail light issue. I am still the only one in any peloton that has a tail light shining brightly in broad daylight. I would REALLY appreciate a fix folks. Thank you.
There isn’t a way to disable the tail light
Hey Mike, thanks for responding. Not quite the answer I was looking for, after being assured earlier in this thread that “we can sort this out”. I clearly have a glitch which now Zwift can’t or won’t “sort out”. FYI not looking for the light to be disabled, just to behave like every other bike I see in the game. I thought you folks were better than this. Feels like I’m being blown off.
First off, I dont work for Zwift, the forums users are 99% regular Zwifters like yourself.
I believe what Fernanda was referring to above when she said “we can sort this out” was your misunderstanding on where to find the settings to allow the firmware to update.
If your tail light is brighter when you apply the brake, that is the intended behavior. If it is always super bright, then you have an issue, but you indicated earlier that was not the case.
I dont think there is anything else that can be done.
Here is a picture of my ride from yesterday, your avatars tail light will always be brighter than those around you. This is the intended behavior, not a bug.
Mike, sorry if I misunderstood who I was messaging with.
Okay, so just to be clear, when you ride you see a tail light on your bike but not others when riding in broad daylight? And in falling or weak light you see lights on all bikes? If that is the case, then that is what I see as well. Although in daylight with a sideline view I see the light on my bike as clear as day but not on anyone else.
For all you Zwifters out there who try to assist those of us with issues, many thanks!
I think that is the correct behavior, seems to match up with my experience.
Yes that is what I see, but only when I run with Zwift Play. Without it I have no tail light at all.
Also, I have paid attention to riders I follow who also run Zwift Play. When I check the screen shots associated with their completed activities I see no tail lights on their bikes, whereas I do with mine. So, a bit of a continuing conundrum. I can live with it but it would be nice if Zwift would weigh in with some clarity.
Thanks Mike. I do appreciate your attempts to help. Ride on brother!
