That is a very valid point Tim and probably why I don’t subscribe to Strava. Since I do most of my riding indoor there is not much Strava Premium has to offer.
But we all know Strava do things without a lot of notice.

Yeah, we’re talking about it here but it’s definitely a Strava problem.
But then again I’ve long complained about “having” to use Strava for this stuff (e.g. Zwift don’t keep segment PRs for more than 30 days). I’d dearly love Zwift to provide their own segment system.
Is there any other platform that comes close to Strava Segments?? I can get the power, speed, etc. using Garmin or Golden Cheetah but these do not have the segments. I am with @Tim_Underscore …I pay for Strava for the segments…now they are gone. I “rode” London last night and only two segments showed. Had best times on those two lonely segments and no notification (Gold Badge or whatever it is)…I had to compare all my results. What a PITA.
If there is any other alternative I would switch.
To be clear, my comment about @Eric_Schlange_ZwftIn was meant as a joke. He has always been an excellent source of all things Zwift related. As I said, I had long ago hid all non-ZwiftInsider segments.
Based on the below, Strava has said the responsibility of segments lays with the platform, in this case Zwift. So, Strava’s hands are washed clean so to speak.
Gotta love the double speak in that post, calling all the removed segments duplicates.
“Zwift, RGT, FulGaz and other virtual platforms decide on the public segments for their platforms, but you can reach out to our support team if you feel an important segment is missing or have any additional questions.”
Okay, so Zwift decides on zwift segments, but if you think they made a mistake reach out to Strava support? That doesn’t make a lot of sense.
If this decision really was in the hands of Zwift then I would like a statement from Zwift about what their position is on segments going forward.
To me its not the segments, its the data. 5+ years of training data viped. Am i a better rider than last year? I have no idea anymore. Sure i can spend hours creating private segments but since history is gone- why bother.
A lot of joy just went missing.
Eric, there’s still loads of odd speeds in the remaining segments with a constant 46kph/28mph irrespective of power output. Have a look at Titans Grove KOM and Petit KOM for many many examples and there will be lots of others. Makes trying against others worthless as you’ll never do 28mph uphill
Nobody is looking to get kom on zwift segments. We just ignore those top spots. A few weird data efforts at the top don’t make it worthless like you say. It’s still a very useful way to compare yourself against others and compete and get motivation from that. Even if you removed those obviously wrong efforts the KOM would still be way way way out of the question for all but 1% of zwifters, and those 1% likely likely don’t care about zwift are are preparing for their next professional race.
It’s not about the KOM, that’s just the absolute measure. It’s more about the fact that this happens in events and someone rides away from you at 28mph uphill at 2w/kg so Zwift has an issue which needs sorting
Okay, so that’s not relevant to this discussion about strava segments.
agree here, very useful when comparing your own historical results, comparing different race efforts, and comparing people you follow (who are known NON cheaters)
now most of that is gone
Strava should be paying zwiftinsider for this service, I hope they’re taking care of him
some of the basic services like garminconnect are better than strava these days anyways, I still upload to strava too but I never look at it and I certainly don’t pay them
I’m sure strava doesn’t care one wit about zwift insider.
They care enough to make him the only segment creator for the entirety of zwift…
You mean “they needed to drastically cut the number of zwift segments and he had a nice set of zwift segments to use to fulfill their needs”. He served a useful purpose to them, they used him, that’s it.
