Speed and Cadence dropping in and out

That’s great news Chris, unfortunately i’m stuck with my Cat Eye sensors on both of my bikes and no spare change to pick up any new sensors at this time. I have also made sure that anyone i speak to about Zwift knows to stay with the Garmin/Wahoo based sensors so they don’t have the same issues we’ve suffered with.

Hey Chris and Tim, firstly that’s great news Chris - enjoy. I had to do the same but managed to tack it on as a christmas present. No slippage messages and really enjoying Zwift!!!

I had heard back from support that the update wouldn’t be available before the new year and that it could possibly be a hardware issue that could not be resolved.

Tim, you can add Bontrager to Garmin/Wahoo - it was the only one I could source locally and I was immensely relieved when it worked and has done so for three rides without any issues whatsoever. I can’t help but think they should create a list of compatible sensors in the “set up” area.

Hey Taylor,

Good point on the sensor compatibility list, especially until they determine whether the Cat Eye can be supported.

Also, thanks for mentioning the Bontrager DuoTrap sensors - as they do work and most likely have been manufactured with ‘Garmin’ internals. I knew these worked as many of my riding friends work at a Trek dealership and have had no issues when converting their bikes to the indoor trainer sessions with Zwift - but i had totally forgot to mention them in earlier posts.

That said, does anyone know how the Giant ‘Ride Sense’ sensors work with Zwift (assuming they’re the same Garmin internals??) as i may be selling one of my bikes and upgrading into a 2016 Giant TCR.

Thanks for your comments on this. I have the exact same setup: Kurt road machine and a cat eye sensor. This slippage issue has been very frustrating to say the least. I’m going to try changing my trainer to the nashbar fluid and see if that affects anything. I would love this issue to be resolved.

Hi Judsen,

Once I switched from CatEye to Garmin I have only experienced one slippage error and it went away in less than a second.  It was also on a hard sprint from a stand still.  With normal and even aggressive riding I haven’t experienced any of the slippage issues again.  Needless to say it has been a much welcomed relief as I was at my wits end with all the errors ruining my rides.  If at all possible I would switch out your sensors if you can.  I was able to return mine and get new sensors without spending much more money, but I understand that might not always be the case.

I posted about this issue 2 months ago, and there is still no resolution from Zwift, and I think it actually has to do more with CatEye, but I am not positive.  Zwift is still a small outfit at this point, and they have bigger problems to attend to first is my guess.  Just my opinion, best of luck!

RIDE ON!

Hi Both…I can confirm same sensor, same behavior - now switched to Nashbar Fluid with Classic Power setting and no drops - I was previously using CycleOps Fluid 2 and has a terrible time.

For Zwift team:  I suspect you have to tight of a tolerance for event handling in your flows - I have had similar issues with a number of device drivers I have worked on over the years - if the OEM device is a little flaky in steady comms, I usually built in some additional error handling to double check the persistence of a “drop” and only after X number of real error returns would I then trigger behaviour - in your case a com drop = 0 power followed by a sudden surge in power reading = logical tire slip = you trigger power reduction.

Juts a thought with out actually seeing your code

I just wanted to update this thread and say that Jason from Zwift tech support had notified me late last week that they had the CatEye Ant+ sensor ‘fix’ in the update around Friday 2/26/2016 and i was able to verify that the issue is resolved.

Regards,

Tim

Hah! Tim beat me too it. Yes, this issue should be resolved now, everyone.

Thanks for your patience while we got this sorted!

Thanks Chris and Jamie for your comments and for the Zwift team for working on this!  Looking forward to testing this tonight!

Hi All…

The update for Cateye work wonders - not a single drop - well done!!
