My avatar occasionally swerves or steers across the road when no riders are near. I’m not touching the play controllers yet the avatar swerves like it is finding a draft (pack dynamics?) but I’m not behind other riders. It seems to happen while climbing and not predictable behavior.
This happened in Watopia. Slight uphill area near Tempus Fugit route start, also happened somewhere between Wind Farm and Sequoia Circle.
This happens to me quite a bit. My theory is there are invisible riders doing a race or group ride and your avatar is steered behind them for the non-existent draft.
This is a good theory. Did you also get this behavior during the summer on the climbing portal? I recall it starting this summer and then a post from zwift said they turned off server-side auto/position correcting.
Normally this sort of swerving is Zwift having trouble computing your position. You can sometimes see it with other riders if they are themselves having connectivity problems.
What system are you running Zwift on when you see this?
Running Macosx 14.8.1 (M2) and Zwift v1.73 (Sept) w/ Zwift play controllers. Have great high speed wireless and internet (confirmed with zwiftalizer), no issues w/ streaming services or zoom.
This behavior started with an update this summer particularly noticeable in the climb portal. It was brought up here on the forum and now it is odd behavior that happens randomly while solo riding. When I’ve done racing events and pacer bot rides I don’t notice it.
I have observed at low speed on climbs e.g 6-13kph my avatar sometimes automatically moves into other riders drafts. Up a climb at low speed drafting physics are different than group/race high speed. Perhaps it is a pack dynamics (should have less PD effects at low speed vs high) thing or ghost drafts as mentioned above.
I would contact Zwift support and give them copies of log files from when you’ve had this happen. And if you can provide video screenshots then even better.
Last night I was 17-18 seconds behind a rider who also had controllers. When they appeared to play with their controllers by zig zagging across the road. My avatar followed the other rider zig zags identically. Tried to capture with my phone and only caught the last bit of the behavior. You can see my avatar swerve and the other rider is not in sight because he was up the road and made the corner.
