Rain. What’s the point

Rain - what is the point? A waste of pixels!

we right for not only physical health but mental. It’s well documented that vitamin G (greenery) lifts mood, therefore why oh why are we forced to ride in urban rainy environment. Come on ZHQ, let’s Ride On in a mood enhanced environment.

Dave.

Sorry but I think the rain and the odd thunder storm is great, its no different from the dust being kicked up on the gravel or the snow drifts moving across the Alps on a climb. Zwift could obviously improve the rain even further on the Volcano circuit because the rain hitting the lava could turn to steam so a bit like the fog I have seen in Scotland I think it was. If your not enjoying this type of thing you need a bigger screen and a better GPU, I’m all for variation in the ride, its what makes Zwift an immersive experience.

I’d like the odd splattering of mud would be welcome.

Doesn’t the rain make you ride faster, so that you can get out from under it?

Like coffee stops you mean

That’s all quite funny actually, with all the other problems Zwift has that need sorting, all that people seem to notice and complain about is the virtual weather.

The in-game weather doesn’t bug me but it does seem like doing some work to allow people to express their preferences might be worthwhile to make customers happy. There’s no point in my telling people not to care about whatever they care about. The game knows how to turn these things on and off already, so offering a setting to suppress the day/night cycle or rain seems feasible.

Add this to the various things people want to turn on or off:

  • dust clouds in jungle
  • rain
  • coffee break icons
  • ride on icons
  • disallow others from following by using coffee break
  • aero socks toilet paper effect
  • rain
  • night time mode
  • mute certain users from chat
  • no robopacer comments
  • incognito riding mode
  • (and the others I haven’t seen)

All this would go well in a section of the settings where the user can toggle these to their own preferences.

While not ideal, you’ve probably seen the hack to hide the ride-on thumbs.

They don’t really bother me, I’m not often riding in groups where there is a flood of them.

But none the less some folks do want the ability to control that.

Well the in game weather options might be a thing.

Will I be able to select the 100km/hr tail wind option ?

The fact that there is no wind, that in game weather has no impact on the ride, makes me wonder why it’s so difficult to make these effects optional.

If it’s just a graphics layer, let us choose to turn it off.

lol, with time set aside to do a ride on zwift, I think I’d use it all up scrolling through and deciding on all of these options pre-ride.

How did you go about setting the other options like choosing a bike, choosing wheels, setting your avatar or even setting up your trainer?

I suppose you set those once and then left them, which is what people would do with other options.

The only reason to make it optional is to reduce the GPU grunt you need when people are trying to run it on low end hardware and the likes of Apple TV.

The reason to make it optional is if customers would be happier and more motivated to use the product

Nooooooo….when you get to a certain age, your bladder adopts the size of that of a gerbil.

D.

Exactly. Your eyes dictate your mood.

Ride on,

What would Scotland or the London routes look like without rain. Zwift wants you to get the feeling of the real world as close as possible. But the rainbows are missing.

Sunshine all day long, and you end up with a virtual sun cancer. This would make lots of folks even more unhappy
