NPE Runn faulty?

Hello Zwift,

I bought the NPE Runn back in March and it’s been flaky from the start but I got it working after a couple of days messing about with it, assuming I was doing something wrong until it magically kicked in.

The bluetooth has always connected ok to Apple TV and ipad, but after reading the reflective strips for the last couple of months without issue it has just stopped picking them up altogether, which was the issue I had right at the beginning.

It worked anywhere within (and outside) the suggested distance range when it worked, but not even a flicker now. I’ve finally got it to factory reset after spending an hour trying to do it last night - I brought it into work to get it away from any of the bluetooth connections in case that was causing a problem - and I will try it again when I get home, so my question is should it need to be factory reset periodically? Is this common, or do I have a faulty unit? To be honest I only bought it because DC Rainmaker said “it just works” after putting up with the flaky zwift footpod! Back to square one…

TIA Nick

(Revision 1.1 FYI)

I don’t run that much but my Runn has generally worked very well.

Have you tried taking Zwift connection right out of the equation and just check whether your device will pick up using the ConfigureZ app as recommended by NPE?

ConfigurEZ

Download the ConfigurEZ app on your iOS or Android device to connect to your Runn™. On Configurez you can update your Runn™, check your Runn™ battery, and more! The current Runn™ firmware is FW Version 3.5.3

This way you can probably check whether your Runn is faulty or whether it is the connection to Zwift.

I have found that the Runn sensor needs to be quite close to the treadmill bed. Also I found use of Tippex/Whiteout to provide a longer lasting connection than the stickers.

There are others with much more experience of connecting a Runn who I’m sure will be along shortly. @Stuart.Middlecoate

Hi.

In my experience yes it does need the odd factory reset. What you’re experiencing is something I’ve seen on many an occasion.

They go into a deep sleep and need a factory reset to bring them back into life.

The factory reset worked, as in it’s reading now. At least it’s not just me! That’s probably why it wouldn’t work on first use too… Makes sense, thanks Stuart :+1:t2:

I’d tried configurez thinking there might be a firmware update to try but I didn’t find a way to do it and gave up… It connected immediately though, and it showed it measuring gradient OK but no speed, very strange! Thanks Ian :+1:t2:

My pleasure.

The configurez app can itself be temperamental.

If it consistently doesn’t work installit on an alternate device as it can act odd with certain devices.

I wouldn’t install on my phone but fine on the iPad… it’s not what you’d call ‘feature rich’ anyway!
