No resistance in SIM mode

Hello,

I ride with a Wahoo Kickr V5 and wanted to do a free ride today. Never had any problems before but today I had no resistance in SIM mode. When I start pushing, the watts go up shortly but then it goes down to about 20-30 watts no matter how hard or fast I pedal.

I tried everything I read in the forum and on the internet in general but nothing works.

ERG mode in workout work fine but as soon as I switch off ERG mode I lose resistance.

Is it a Zwift bug? Or is my Wahoo broken?

If it’s a Zwift problem I might have to unsubscribe as one of the main functions do not work.

Maybe someone has a solution.

THANKS!

Try it in another app, e.g. Wahoo or something else. It might be a trainer problem.

Works fine in the Wahoo App.

I am struck by the fact that there are many people with the same problem and I don’t see a clear solution. The same thing happens to me, the resistance only works in workout where the ERG mode is activated.

I will chime in here that 4 days ago I suddenly have similar issue, no resistance in sim mode, erg mode in workout is fine. latest kickr v5 firmware, zwift updates etc, win11. identical behavior regardless of connecting with dircon, BT, or ANT+. Did a forced spin down using wahoo fitness app a few times with no change in behavior. The wahoo fitness app (BT conn) on android has same behavior so I dont think its zwift. I have support ticket open with wahoo, their response so far has been generic simple stuff that I already did before opening ticket. Hoping it gets passed up the support chain soon. Did you look in your .log files for stuff like:
[FTMS] SIM Grade 0.16% → 0.17%

also did you try sim mode in the wahoo fitness app? as my situation is erg mode works but sim mode does not.

have you tried changing your wheel circumference in the Wahoo App yet ?

why would i do that on a direct drive trainer?

Changing wheel cirumfrence is to simulate wheel size which can change the reistance the setting is there so you can simulate feel from your MTB, Gravel, Road bike and get the correct feel.

There have been some other reports of changing the setting and changing it back fixing a similar no resistance issue. If somehow this got set very small by something it would make it feel like it has no resistance.

Also another thing to try is go into the wahoo app and start a workout just to change SIM mode to something else one time. There are a bunch of values Zwift doesnt send and if something else changed them, other apps, watch, who knows what they wouldn’t get set back by Zwift. Wahoo App will set them back. ERG doesn’t use wheel circumfrence or any of these other settings, which is probably why it works fine.

Because of a bug, which I’m guessing is in the Wahoo firmware. I don’t know if that’s what you’re experiencing but it’s easy to try.
