No resistance in climbs / Wahoo Kickr

I am having the exact same issue. I hope this gets fixed soon. I’ve tried everything in this thread with no luck. Very frustrating. I’m running the original kickr and it’s been working great for the last 3 years till now.

Zwift updates for MacOS and tvOS have both rolled out, fixing the resistance problem on those platforms. iOS users are still awaiting their update.

For those still experiencing problems, I had this problem since I bought by Kickr Core a few weeks ago. I was trying to use it with ANT+ and BT on a Macbook Pro. I removed the Kickr Core from my Wahoo app today and it instantly worked. I didn’t have to do a spindown or anything else.

I connected my Kickr with BT today but will give it a try later with ANT+, but BT did work.

If you’re using Bluetooth, your Kickr can only be paired w/one other device at a time. So, if it was actively paired to your phone, that is why it would not pair with Zwift. You can have the Kickr in the Wahoo app. However, the app needs to be force quit before using Zwift. Alternatively, you can disable Bluetooth on your phone to accomplish the same thing.

Having the same problem. Have been using Zwift with no issues for a long time. Kickr snap (most recent firmware) connected to iphone x or macbook pro via bluetooth. Have used it fine 4 or 5 times in the lat 10 days.

Now suddenly no power adjustment to reflect gradients. I’m in 50/11 sprocket and can barely clear 140W, if I drop 4 or 5 sprockets, just spin out. Small ring worthless.

I have never used the wahoo app but after suffering these issues I tried it today to check if i could manually control the kickr (which I can). Then disconnected/forgot the kickr from the wahoo app and turned the app off to avoid risk of bluetooth contamination. Removed all other power meters/connections to make the kickr/device/zwift connection the only one. Calibrated kickr as normal on wahoo utility app. Calibrated on zwift but hard to get up to 37kph even in nr top gear. have uninstalled and reinstalled zwift. Have tried all the suggested solutions in this support chain - still no joy.

So frustrating as it’s been working fine and i haven’t changed anything. Trainerroad seems to be working fine, so I think it is a Zwift issue. Frustrating as I like to ride along to the tour and I am off to the french alps next week and have lost a valuable few days of zwift riding because of this.

I think I may have had a Kickr snap issue as opposed to a Zwift issue. Did a factory calibration of the snap via the wahoo app and then disconnected all bluetooth connections, turned phone off and on, reconnected everything, tinkered with the trainer difficulty setting and seems to be going ok now. No idea why it all suddenly went out of whack after working fine for a long time.

Have it paired as the controllable trainer. So power from kickr and controllable from kickr. Both options on the pair screen.

Well, here is another fixit. Turned off Bluetooth! Forced Zwift to forget the Kickr. Re-connected to Kickr on ANT. Had problems with the spin down. Moved the computer closer to the Kickr. Works like a charm. Ended up buying a USB extension cable for the USB dongle. Winter riding, here I come.

I have a similar issue - Zwift typically does not change the resistance on the Kickr on free rides without a reboot/reset. What’s odd is that the trainer pairs just fine and ERG mode works fine…

So if want to race or free ride and have the resistance adjust dynamically with the gradient, I have to go through this 10 minute process of resetting / rebooting everything every time I want to get it to work. It’s becoming somewhat of a PITA and I’m losing precious workout time

My setup:
Kickr (~2 months old)
Apple TV 4K
HR monitor
I usually don’t have the companion app running.

  • Check that your Kickr firmware is updated.
  • Check that Apple TV OS is updated.
  • Check that Zwift is updated.

Apple TV OS and the apps may or may not be set to auto-update, even if enabled it is not instantaneous. Best to manually check and update if necessary.

Are you force quitting Zwift after each session? If not, recommend you do so. It does not run in the background. Also, your Apple TV will go to sleep. If you did not force quit after the previous session, Zwift is likely to get in some unstable state since it was disconnected from the servers while it was in the background or the Apple TV asleep.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am having this same problem. The 4 step process (including forget Kickr in the Wahoo app) solves this temporarily but it always comes back within a few rides.

Wahoo Kickr Snap (firmware 2.3.63)
Wahoo Tickr or BlueSC (I switch between these because AppleTV only lets me use one)
Apple TV

Solution.

  1. remove your wahoo ST from wahoo app.
  2. open zwift connect power source and controllable
  3. let’s go!

bonus: go to setting > adjust your resistance

Ive been using my new kicker 18 perfectly for 6 rides…now same issue I’m seeing you all have. no resistance on climbs. makes Zwift worthless. Spent two days trying all of the suggestions from this forum. Nothing works. Hope wahoo will refund me. Its been 35 days since purchase. Cant believe wahoo and Zwift let this go on and on and on…couple years now.

Got what i think is the same issue. Zwift on Mac with brand new Kickr Core. On the flat in free ride i’m in my third from top gear on an 11-28 rear and only pushing out 150 watts with a 90 cadence. Seems way to ‘loose’ compared to the road where id be probably up at around 300 watts. I was getting more resistance out of my elite fluid trainer.

Resistance change works fine up hills but gears still seem about 4-5 rings too low down on the sprocket for what i’d expect. Have moved difficulty right up as well. In the menu before i start the ride, the resistance is high, but as soon as zwift starts reporting what the percentage gradient is (0%), all resistance disappears.

I’ve tried spindowns in wahoo app and on zwift and tried ant and bluetooth. All the same.

have you tried the advanced spindown? You have to tap on the little kickr core icon 5 or 10 times to access it, its a hidden feature in the Wahoo Utility app.

What has zwift got your FTP entered at? Change it to 300 if it has a low number in there.

I’ve tried to get that to show and no matter what I do on my iPhone6s, it does not appear. I’ll try it again as you have said to click on the icon whereas everything else i read said to click on the text above.

I can only seem to do a spindown on the “Utility” app and not the Wahoo app. In the Wahoo “Workout” app, i dont seem to get a speed reading, all I seem to get is N/A

FTP is set to 230 in zwift. Is that a low number ?? ;). I’ll try raising it to see if it makes a difference.

If you can’t get it working contact wahoo. They will get you to do a test ride and send them the fit file.

Thanks.

I installed the wahoo app on my work android phone and do have the option to do the factory spin down on there so will give that a go. Strange that the iphone version just doesnt work. I guess a 6s is old enough that it could be expected. Also installing zwift on a windows machine so will give that a go to try to eliminate the source of the problem
