No resistance change with virtual shifting

Today after 10 minutes riding the resistance of my kickr core 2 was lost. I saw the gears in were chancing but the resistance didn’t changed.

After this I did a firmeware upgrade of the kickr core 2. Disconnected everything and restarted Zwift. Also change the setting with setting virtual shifting off/on. Unfortunally this all didn’t help. When I try to adjust the resistance with the Wahoo app it changing.

Anyone an idea how I can solve this?

if you use the wahoo app does the resistance change?

This is a commonly reported problem with the Kickr Core V1, which can be fixed by making any change to the wheel size setting in the Wahoo app. I have no idea if that issue affects the V2 but the symptoms sound right, and it’s easy to try. I hope you will let me know if that does anything for you.

Yes, with the wahoo app I can change the resistance

Thanks Paul for this potential solution. I have tried it. First change the wheel size in the app and then started Zwift. Unfortunally virtual shifting is still not working.

Any other ideas?

Any chance the trainer got paired to something else, like Zwift on a second device, or any other app?

Hi @R_ene welcome to Zwift forums.

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I checked your server logs and noticed you are running the main Zwift app on an Galaxy Tab S6 tablet and a Windows PC.

Are you running into the no resistance change on the PC, but it works on the tablet?

If yes - that’s because you have an ANT+ dongle inserted in the PC. Virtual Shifting does not work over ANT, only Bluetooth. If you unplug the ANT dongle, everything will pair over Bluetooth, and everything will work as expected. Would you give that a try?

Also be aware that logging into the main Zwift app from two different devices will lead to problems. If your preference is to run the app on your tablet - we recommend uninstalling the Zwift main app from your PC, or vice versa.

Hi, on both devices (PC and tablet) no resistance change is there. I prefer to work on the PC, but because of the issues I also tried it on the tablet.

Today I have done the following steps, but no succes

  • Removed the Zwift app from the tablet
  • Unplugged the ANT+ cable
  • Removed the Zwift app from the PC
  • Installed the Zwift app on the PC

After done these steps did a test run, but still no resistance change after changing the gears

Hi @R_ene

I looked again at your server logs and confirm the steps you said you took.

You don’t mention another symptom - is your avatar moving at all when you pedal? Are you also seeing this notice to renew your subscription? It appears you cancelled your subscription earlier this month.

Both of those are expected behaviors since we ended the 25km free trial earlier this summer. Without an active subscription you will no longer be able to ride in Zwift.

I still have an active subscription and don’t see the message above. When I’m riding my avatar is moving.

Want to continue with Zwift, but not when I still have this problem.

@R_ene
I noticed you are using Play controllers. Have you been using them prior to buying the KICKR Core v2, and was it with a trainer that did not support virtual shifting? At that time, did you disable the virtual shifting in game settings?

Now - if you go into your game settings > Hardware menu, do you see the Shift Style and Gear Range toggles, or no?

If no - do this:

  1. Log out of the Zwift app.
  2. On Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder - go to the Documents > Zwift folder.
  3. Locate a file called prefs.xml and delete it. This is a file that stores the preferences you choose in the Game Settings menu.
  4. Launch Zwift again. Your game settings will revert to the default options, so change your Audio, HUD, Hardware options the way you like. Do you see the missing sliders related to Virtual Shifting?
  5. When you log out - those preferences will be saved to a fresh prefs.xml file.

I did also see the shift style before I removed the file, but to be save. First I removed Zwift then also deleted the how Zwift folder (where prefs.xml is located). Reinstalled Zwift and connected all the devices again.

Unfortunally still I see the gear changes from 8 to 24, but no resistance change is happening.

@R_ene

Thanks for doing all those things - this is very baffling. I see you’ve contacted my Support Team colleagues. I’m going to ask that you work with them offline to get some one-on-one troubleshooting. One possibility we haven’t touched on yet is that there’s an issue with that specific trainer, and they’re in a better position to help with that than I am.
