Today’s new Wahoo firmware (or Zwift) has broken the multiple Zwift controller and Kickr hardware steering pairing. Before you could connect all three, however it’ll only connect to either the Kickr Bike or Controllers - not both.
This means I can’t navigate Zwift while using the Kickr’s functionality as well.
I believe that’s expected behavior, but I’d like to ask questions about your setup so we understand what’s happening.
Looking at your server logs, I can see that you updated your KICKR Bike v2 to firmware version 2.2.22 today.
Going back through some recent history - I see you pair Zwift Play controllers instead of the inbuilt KICKR controls.
Q1: It sounds like you were you able to pair both Play and KICKR controls previously, please confirm?
Q2: What’s the third thing?
Q3: How were you using the Play and inbuilt controls previously (as in what functions on which controllers)?
Q4: Specifically for shifting gears - assuming you were using the inbuilt controls only. yes?
I can confirm, up until now, I’ve alway been able to simultaneously pair both my Zwift Controllers AND Kickr Bike V2 steering.
This meant I could steer with either at any time. Both the Controllers and Kickr Bike buttons all worked as intended, while both are paired at the same time.
This Wahoo (or Zwift?) update has completely broken it - now I can only pair either the Controllers or Kickr Bike steering, not both. Prior to this, I could select all in (steering) pairing section but not now.
Please could you reinstate that functionality? Previously I would use the Controllers to navigate Zwift, both in the menu/and in-game, while using the buttons on the Kickr to steer and use Power Up. Now I can’t
We’ve been looking through your server logs for today’s sessions. We see your trainer & Play controllers auto-pairing to the game in two different sequences. One of those sequences appear to allow both the Play controllers and the inbuilt controllers to pair simultaneously, and we’d like you to manually pair in this sequence to try and replicate that.
Power: KICKR Bike 8166 94 (Use Direct Connect)
Heart Rate: Forerunner (Bluetooth)
Controls: Left Zwift Play followed by Right Zwift Play (both Bluetooth)
Cadence: KICKR BIKE 8166 94 (Direct Connect)
Resistance: KICKR Bike 8166 94 (Direct Connect)
Controls: KICKR Bike 8166 94 (Direct Connect)
Q1: As you’re doing this, do you see the “94” in the name of the KICKR’s signal?
Q2: Are you able to pair to all these signals?
If yes to both - the Play Controllers should be fully functional (including steering). The Kickr Bike controllers should be able to steer, but will not have any other functionality. Please let us know if that is the current behavior?
I’ve done a video recording of the issue - I hope that’ll shed light on the matter. Please see here on the Wetransfer link: Unique Download Link | WeTransfer
I have tried following the pairing sequence in which you suggested, however the issue still persists - as soon as you select KICKR Bike V2 8166 94 under Controls it cancels out/deselects the Play Controllers - as per the video demonstration. As a result, only one of them works in-game.
I hope that helps and look forward to resolving the problem.
Even though you can see the KICKR Bike with the Play controllers icon, the Play Controllers do not work in-game. The blue light is flashing on both Play Controllers indicating that they are not connected if though image/icon say otherwise in the Pairing section - this is due what is highlighted in the video - the KICKR Bike disconnects/kicks the Play Controllers. In this configuration, only the Kickr Steering and buttons work.
Thank you for confirming @Tante_Lotte glad I am not the only one. Hopefully @shooj is looking into a fix and fingers crossed Zwift we can get things working again as before. I don’t think we can rollback in this instance.
Thanks for the detailed followup @Nick. We have our team working on sorting this out - perhaps not a quick fix, but a high priority fix that’s getting the attention it needs.
Everyone - I’m combining bug reports from KICKR BIKE v2 & BIKE MOVE users who updated to the October 2024 firmware on those models. This thread may get a little messy short-term, but it puts different issues into one place for now.
Very minor issue when using the Kickr bike Shift with it’s latest firmware, a Y is shown next to the power up. Assume Zwift thinks it’s connected to play controllers.
You can’t do it from the Kickr ride on button either.
I asked Wahoo and this was their response:
please open a ticket with Zwift CS. I was just informed they made some changes in 1.77 the press Z for ride on return is now invisible. You should be seeing the same on your PLAY controller but with the PLAY you will feel a vibration.
This should be working on KICKR BIKE anyway if you tap the left back button, but since it’s hidden there is no confirmation you have returned the ride on.
