Wahoo Shift Bike not connecting after firmware update [Samsung Tab A8]

Hi,

Since the new update im having connection issues using my Samsung tablet. I have a Wahoo Shift bike and nothing on my side has changed. Everything i use is up to date. I can’t connect my steering and that seems to be creating an issue for my trainer connecting. The only reason i can still zwift at the moment is because i have power meter peddles. Has anyone else had this issue?

Chris

Hi @C_hris_Cryo_Gen welcome to Zwift forums.

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. I scanned your recent server logs and see you updated the firmware on your KICKR Bike SHIFT version 1.21.18 on October 31. That also happened to be the same day as you updated to Zwift game version 1.77 from 1.76, so both updates hit at the same time.

I also noticed you use Zwift on a variant of a Samsung Tab A8 tablet, which have been cited as a problematic device depending on the exact model & RAM capacity. Would you have a smartphone you can try instead to run the Zwift app? Please be sure you’re logged out of the tablet so you don’t create a double-login situation.

There’s a known issue after the firmware update for SHIFT Bike users also using a Zwift Play. controller. Your issue seems a little different because you’re not using two steering devices that conflict with each other.

Would you let us know what happens if you’re not using the Tab A8? I’d like to eliminate that as a suspect before we chase the firmware interacting with Zwift as the suspect.

Hi Shuji,

I’ve tried my phone and it works. However, im annoyed because for the past two or so years, I’ve never had an issue with using this tablet. Since the update, i can no longer connect my bike. I can connect my peddles and zwift as if everything is fine, so why is my tablet the issue? Using my peddles, i dont have ergo mode though, as the bike isn’t connected as such.

Now since the steering/gearing update my tablet is basically no good anymore. So now because of an update i need to spend several hundreds of pounds getting a new setup. How is that fair on me when its never been an issue until the update? Be cheaper for me to just use my peddles, but thats not the point, as its not setup properly. It will be cheaper for me to just leave zwift now.

Is there anything you can do to rectify this issue please?

Im sorry for moaning, but this update will cost me money i dont have to just spend on another setup

Chris

Thanks for troubleshooting with us. I see you logged in from a Samsung S20 FE, and glad to hear this device doesn’t have this issue.

Yes. We’re investigating how the Wahoo firmware update may have impacted pairing on Android devices more broadly.

We’re not asking you to spend money on another device, but if something you already own is working well, that may be a temporary workaround.
