EDIT: First follow Gerrie’s advice and sign up for the individual stage on the companion app.
To join an event like this you need to spawn into one of the available worlds, doesn’t matter which one, at least 30 minutes before it starts (give yourself at least 5 minutes to plan for loading time so you don’t miss it). Starting around 30 minutes before the event a “join now” button will appear in the lower left side of the screen. Click that, or use the companion app that will also show a “join now” button. You then get transported to the start pens for the event/ride/race, etc…
Thanks Mike, I’m good with how group rides work as they’re pretty much all I do. I checked the Companion app and selected everything in the Filter and the rides are now listed. I normally only have D selected, the badge hunter rides are only listed under category E (a bit weird if you’re trying to get as many people as possible to take part but hey ho…).
Except that E is, generally, the ‘Open’ category (i.e all wkg), as opposed to A-D, which are (generally), for specific WKG ranges. There are a number of ‘all inclusive’ events that use only the E category.
i used to do this, too, but there’s a bunch of types of rides that will use the categories differently (ie: A is expert ride, B is beginner and C is women only) that you’ll miss out on. unfortunately, i would say it’s better to not view the event list filtered.
Hi Guy, I think you’re right, the filtering system on Zwift isn’t brilliant. It does make sense that someone considering yourself a “D” rider would only search for “D” events but sadly that’s not how all Zwift events work. Some rides for everyone are listed as “E”, while some have different route choices which are listed as A, B and C (such as the Tour de Zwift in 2020 and 2021).
Zwift is set to introduce a new user interface soon though and a big part of the reason for this is to help guide people into events, so hopefully this will soon improve.
i did this “sign up early and come back later approach” last night – it definitely works. thanks for the tip!
no my ideal by any stretch, but in a pinch, it does work. the main drawback is that i was completely alone on the course. (oh and my time was worse than in a pack, but that’s sort of redundant )
I posted a separate subject on this general topic but why are the date ranges for each stage not listed at the top of the event page? This happens a lot.
Zwift Insider gets it right but it is very helpful to put the date range for each stage next to the data for the stage on the event webpage.
I ended up crawling zwifthacks to build my own date list since I didn’t see it, but it’s in PST time, so not super helpful to those in other timezones:
Stage 1: Sleepless City (9.6km) - Went until Thurs Dec 2nd 11pm PST.
Stage 2: Wandering Flats (25.2km) - Friday Dec 3rd 12am PST to Monday Dec 6th 11pm PST.
Stage 3: Railways and Rooftops (8.4km) - Tuesday Dec 7th 12am PST to Friday Dec 10th 11pm PST.
Stage 4: Temples and Towers (33.4km) - Saturday Dec 11th 12am PST to Tuesday Dec 14th 11pm PST.
Hi @Gary_Kercher, welcome to the forums, see Gerrie’s post below. I suggest using the companion app to sign up for the badge hunt events. You can’t ride them on your own, it has to be completed in one of these events.
I am new to Badge Hunts and have completed Stages 2-4 - I missed Stage1 - the easiest! The information provided says that you can make up missed stages from Dec 15-19 but I don’t see any stages scheduled past the 15th. They also say that the stages will be ‘in rotation’. What does that mean? I will be away from home on the 15th and 16th and want to make sure I don’t miss Stage 1 again. I’ll take my bike with me, if I have to!
Got a completion email for the series after riding stage 4, but I never did stage 2 (planning to do it during the upcoming makeup period) - anybody else get bogus completion? Zwift itself still shows stage 2 missing, and no helmet in the garage, so I think it’s an error external to the game itself, maybe triggered by finishing #4 without it bac-checking the rest of the series?
Not unusual with challenges, along with the assigned kits not showing to everyone, your socks randomly disappearing and other stuff like dates being wrong. You’d think they’d be ace at organising these by now, but it’s the same every time. I realise this doesn’t help you, sorry.
