Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with my new Wahoo KICKR Core + Zwift Cog and wanted to see if anyone has experienced something similar or has suggestions. When I backpedal and then start pedaling forward again, there’s a delay before the cassette engages. During this delay, the chain moves freely without pulling the cassette, and then when it finally engages, there’s a loud “bang” noise.
Here are the details:
The issue happens when I pedal backward and then resume forward pedaling.
There’s noticeable free movement (play) before the cassette catches, which is followed by a loud “bang.”
I’m using a Zwift-compatible cassette on the KICKR Core.
Has anyone dealt with this issue before, or have any advice on what could be causing it? Any troubleshooting tips or solutions would be greatly appreciated! This unit came with the Zwift Ride recently, so I assume it’s still under warranty.
I seem to have the same issue. For me it also occurs when the resistance is reduced, so it makes Zwift really hard to use.
Did you find a solution to this?
Thank you for contacting us! To assist you better, we would greatly appreciate it if you could send us a 20-second video in MP4 format, demonstrating the problem. It would be helpful if someone could record you pedaling while keeping the camera steady and focused.
Please ensure that the video captures the cog or cassette, and the chain, and includes a close-up of the area where you believe the noise might be coming from.
Hi @N_Ail_H_N! Welcome to the forums. Jose here from Zwift.
I understand how frustrating this issue can be, and I’d love to help.
It looks like some Zwift users have experienced similar problems with the Wahoo KICKR Core + Zwift Cog when backpedaling. The delay before the cassette engages, along with the loud “bang” noise, might be caused by a few things:
1- Cassette Freehub Engagement – The pawls inside the freehub may not be engaging properly. Checking for wear or debris could help.
2- Chain Tension & Alignment – Making sure the chain is properly tensioned and aligned on the cassette may reduce excessive play.
3- Firmware Updates – Updating your KICKR Core through the Wahoo app could improve responsiveness.
4- Zwift Cog Installation – Tightening the cassette lockring or inspecting the Zwift Cog for defects might resolve engagement delays. Ensure that Cog V2 is set in index position ‘1’
If the issue persists after following the instructions above, please contact us at support@zwift.com, and we would greatly appreciate it if you could send us a 20-second video in MP4 format demonstrating the problem. Similar Forum.
