My guess is the belts are designed to work under constant tension whereas the climb experiences tension bouncing on and off as the rider pedals causing rapid fatigue.
I could see that, yeah. The riderās weight, particularly out of the saddle, could have a significant effect over not much time.
Iām guessing that standing up, reaching around to turn on the fan, grab a towel etc whilst being clipped in will put more of a strain on the belt than pedalling, which should be a smooth action.
If the belt is over tensioned then undue exertions could contribute to belts snapping. As itās a toothed belt it doesnāt have to be fully taught in order to work without slipping. You can slacken the belt by undoing the 2 screws that hold the top pulley in place, then check the belt tension by lifting some the side blanking plates out of the way to see how much sideways movement is in the belt.
Getting a belt with the core strands made from metal would be even better, as per @Adrian_Ramsden2528.
Thereās āshould beā as in there is an ideal to aim for, and thereās āshould beā as in āI expect that your pedaling is smoothā. If youāre saying the second, you clearly havenāt seen me pedaling
Mine went four weeks ago. I thought no way theyād replace it after over two years of use! The bike shop had a record of my purchase and I messaged wahoo. Sent a copy of receipt and pics of the broken belt with serial number matching the receipt.
Not a problem two weeks later a new kickr climb has arrived WAHOO!!!
Canāt complain about that service!
Hi Dave, Iāve just bought a closed loop belt prior to reading this, but zooming in on your top pulley photo, is there not a small black retaining U-clip that holds the pin that goes through the centre of the pulley wheel? Looks from the photo like this could be unclipped, that would release the centre pin and the pulley wheel to install a continuous belt? (iāll be opening mine up at the weekend having had my belt snap a couple of days ago)
Thanks
Hi Mark,
Yes, I think I removed those circlips. I seem to remember they were pretty flimsy and didnāt fit back on afterwards. I still had issues removing the centre pin, but Iām sure thereās a way.
Iām still riding on my split belt, with the new belt unused, so if you also have issues with removing the pin, just reuse your current belt.
Take loads of pic and good luck with the installation. Shout if you have any questions and Iāll try and help.
Ta.
Anyone get a look at any of the motor part numbers? I donāt have a broken belt but I do have an issue with it not moving up or down while I have any weight on it. Thought it was maybe a jammed up belt but thinking it could be the motor now.
Appreciate the help!
Most likely it is a problem with the power supply. It is common.
