Kickr Bike Experience - it broke

My replacement bike has arrived. I set it up but didn’t use it yet.

I must say the Tacx Neo 2T I’ve been using while waiting for the replacement has been excellent.

At this point I must imagine anything that works would be a significant upgrade.

Same error here with the shifters, as well as the gradient not changing on downhills (only uphill?!) on Zwift. Infuriating to see how common this issue is (I’ll be on my 2nd Kickr bike and 2nd Kickr turbo) and no recall issued.
The bike is fantastic, I just feel there’s too many variables in its development and setup. The cost of support and returns must be insane. I have absolutely no confidence that this will last beyond it’s warranty (if it gets replaced!!)

My Kickr Bike arrived yesterday and the flywheel is rubbing against the plastic casing on the drive side. It looks like either the casing or the flywheel aren’t on straight as the gap goes from nothing at the front of the flywheel to 3mm at the rear (see photo). Can anyone tell me what it looks like on theirs?

Wahoo have offered to replace it but if it’s a simple fix then i’d be inclided to do that instead.

Here’s mine - parallel

Same error with shifters also. When disconnecting the pin and trying to connect it back I discovered half of the connector was broken inside.
Poor built quality!

Hi all,

I am new in this forum and I have never used Zwift before. These days, is the Kickr Bike still having those issues that you guys are commenting in this post? I was thinking to buy one but this post really discourages me from buying it.

I have been through a series of serious health conditions since the past year (autoimmune disorder, bacterial meningitis and covid, :sob:). Fortunately I start seeing the light at the end of the tunnel but right now using my old and basic indoor bike is the best exercise I can tolerate versus running or outdoor cycling. That is why I was thinking to buy one of these smart bikes to help me keep pushing forward. Kickr bike was my first choice but after reading to you guys I am now considering the Stages SB20 which looks more stable.

Thanks!

I bought mine Sept 2020 and have over 5000 miles on it. It has given me trouble free service. I do keep sweat off the display module where the handle bar connectors plug in by using a Headwind fan which is pointed up from the floor and directly at the display. I have don nothing to the bike since purchasing almost a year ago. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy again.

PS: I do wipe it down after every ride being careful not to disturb the handle bar wires at their connection point on the display.

My second kickr bike seems to be working. I do about 700km/week on that bike.

I also have a 450mm Dynabreeze fan on the floor in front of it so sweat stays away from the indicator screen.

The bars definitely need to be replaced, they are thin and the wrong shape for me, also too wide I also changed the saddle immediately to a Specialized Romin.

I also had an issue with the bars slipping down, but I usually ride a bike with the stem slammed anyway. So to stop the creaking noises it made there I just grabbed a spacer from my toolbox and put that there.

“I also had an issue with the bars slipping down,”

I drilled and tapped the steering head and installed a removable knob. Locks the bars down nicely.

I’ve got over 8000km on mine since last November. Other than the seat post slipping and the handlebar stem slipping it’s been great. I drape a towel over the bars and that along with the trainer triangle thing keeps any sweat from the incredibly poorly positioned electronics interface box. To fix the stem and seat post from slipping I modified a pair of single bolt shaft collars to fit and there is no more slippage.

It works pretty well but the overall design is about as poorly executed as any product I’ve ever owned at this price point. It’s better than a trainer bike with a Kickr V5 and climb unit but not thousands of dollars better. I probably would not have purchased this had I known how it doesn’t really meet expectations. I cannot comment on the other bikes; I have no experience with them at all.

I also have a Tacx Neo 2T.

It’s a trainer only, but it does some things much better. It measures power much more immediately.

That’s something Wahoo needs to look at. And just toughening up the Kickr Bike in the areas mentioned above.

I bought a reconditioned unit on the basis that someone must have actually looked at the unit and rectified anything wrong with it. It turned up with the flywheel rubbing on the housing cover so that one got sent back for a replacement. The replacement has a distinct vibration noise between 90-100rpm which is a common cadence for me. There is also another noise (whine) at about 80rpm which I understand is quite common. That unit is about to be sent back also and I’ll go back to using my Kickr Core.

The Bike is nice, and the vertical motion is quite a novelty and I’m sure many people have a trouble free experience, but I wouldn’t recommend it to a friend.

On the plus side, Wahoo support has been very good so if you do get a bad unit then at least they seem to be willing to replace them.

Hi all, I have managed to get a wahoo kikr bike without the shifters I have contacted wahoo support and they wont sell them to me which is strange is there anyone out there that has a spare one I can buy or even a faulty one I dont mind tinkering with stuff.

Thanks all

Several people (including me) think the problem with failing gear shifters might be down to moisture getting into the mechanism. Has anyone tried WD40, GT85 or similar sprays? Any good?

I don’t see any reason why these sprays would cause any damage. Any comments?

Hi Joseph - give me a day or so to get back to you…i’m away from home at the moment.

Paul

Hi Paul - Thanks so much for the reply. I actually found my answer and tried to delete my post but apparently you got it before I was able to.

for starters you magnus is rubbish and overstates; you kickr bike (which you think is low) is reality buddy!
go with kickr DD unit rather than the bike

I received my Kickr bike a few days ago. When I shift in higher gears or put more power on the pedals, the pedalling (fly wheel) feels flabby and not smooth. Is this normal? Does anybody hv similar experiences?

Thanx for help
